I was feeling crafty around Christmas time and saw a fun and do-able idea on a mommy message board. One mom had painted the letters “L” and “E” on the left and right sides of a piece of wood, and used her baby’s hand print to make the “O” and foot prints to make the “V.” When you looked at it all together, it appeared to spell “LOVE.” Super cute!
I decided to use this inspiration to create a footprint and handprint coat rack for our home, and I also made a couple similar items as Christmas gifts for family.
What you need to make this LOVE Footprint & Handprint Coat Rack:
- Wooden Coat Rack (I used one that was pre-made)
- Acrylic Paint
- Small craft paint roller
- Drywall anchors
I was shopping for supplies at a local craft store and found the pre-painted coat rack pictured, but I found this Wooden Coat Rack available on Amazon if you’d like to re-create this project.
I recommend buying a small foam roller to apply the paint to your kid’s hands and feet — it will make the whole process a lot easier and slightly less messy (no dripping).
TIP: Have a damp towel on hand to immediately wipe off excess paint — it comes off very easily if you clean right away.
I used acrylic paint for this project — it cleans right off skin and dries quickly on the wood. The whole project cost about $25 and took only 30 minutes or so. My oldest daughter was a pro — her handprint looks stellar! The baby, of course, was a little wiggly, so her feet are slightly smeared, but I was still happy with the result!
I actually hung it myself as well with two Drywall Anchors and a screwdriver. Not the most fun part, but I was able to get it done in about 5 minutes. The anchors say they can support up to 50 pounds and the coat rack itself is very sturdy, so it can hold plenty of items. I’ve got multiple jackets and even the Ergo carrier ready to go by our door now.
This would be a lovely addition to your own home, or the perfect keepsake gift for family and friends!
