“Love You to Pieces” Valentine’s Day Wreath DIY

Last year we made Valentine’s Day cards with a “piece of my heart” theme, using a puzzle piece template (click here to see them!) I love how they turned out and I’m so excited to share this year’s Valentine’s Day craft with you!

This DIY Valentine wreath is made with dollar store and recycled supplies, so it’s super thrifty! It’s also easy enough that kids can help make it.

But what I especially love is that this puzzle piece heart-shaped wreath is just so darn cute! How fun is this to hang up on the door for Valentine’s Day or even the month leading up to it! And I do love myself a good pun!

How to Make a Puzzle Piece Wreath for Valentine’s Day

Separate your puzzle pieces into 4 groups of 25 pieces each. Paint one group white, one group red, one group hot pink, and one group light pink.

Allow the pieces to dry and apply a second coat if needed.

Download, print and cut heart wreath pattern HERE. Trace the heart wreath pattern onto cardboard and cut. We used scissors to cut the outside of the heart and a craft knife to cut out the middle of the heart.

Use a hot glue gun to attach the puzzle pieces to your cardboard heart wreath so that all the cardboard is covered.

Apply a second layer of puzzle pieces over top of the first layer. Mix and match the colors and shapes to create an organic pattern.

Measure and cut a rectangle out of white cardstock that one-inch tall and eleven-inches wide.

Use a red marker to write the message “Love You To Pieces” in the center. It may be helpful to trace first in pencil to make sure that your sizing is correct.

Cut a fishtail in each end of the cardstock, then fold the ends into a “Z” or zig-zag shape —  this will give the banner a 3-dimensional appearance. Attach each end of the paper banner to the heart wreath, so that it crosses the middle of the wreath.

    Hi Amy,
As for the backside of the cutout heart, did you cut two hearts and glue them together (cereal box printed side facing inward) in order to show the plain cardboard on both sides?

For the photo/video we used plain cardboard, but if you use a cereal box you’d just put the label side on the back. Hope this helps!

The heart should print out true to size – so it’s about 8″ across. We kept it small so the template would print out on regular paper and it would be easy to make. Hope this helps!

My handwriting is terrible from a disability. Maybe next time print “Love You To Pieces” also and make a printable. Just an idea. Thanks!
