Why Use an Air Fryer?

There are two main reasons why an air fryer is ideal for this recipe:

  1. It’s fast! โ€” Instead of baking for 40 minutes to an hour in a conventional oven, these roll-ups cook in just 10 minutes in an air fryer. From start to finish, this dish is ready in about 20 minutes!
  2. Energy-Efficient โ€” It takes significantly more energy to heat up your entire oven, and it’s not really needed here! Plus, when it gets hot in the summer, the last thing you want to do is heat up the kitchen!

Ingredients

Iโ€™ve included shop-able ad links for your convenience in re-creating this recipe;ย disclosure policy available here.

  • 6 Lasagna noodles โ€”The noodles should be pre-cooked so they are al dente, just pliable enough to roll up. To save time, you can also oven ready noodles (more information on this in the FAQ section).
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese
  • ยฝ cup Pasta sauce โ€” We used marinara sauce, but you can also use meat sauce with ground beef.
  • 3 Mozzarella cheese sticks โ€” Cut them in half so you have 2 short sticks from each one..
  • ยฝ tsp. Italian seasoning

Kitchen Tools Used

  • 8 quart Air Fryer
  • 8โ€ณ metal pie pan or baking dish that fits inside your air fryer

Instructions

To Prep: Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees.

  1. Spread the pre-cooked lasagna noodles out on a flat surface, such as a clean countertop or a cutting board.ย Coat each noodle with a thin layer of ricotta cheese.
  2. Spread tomato sauce onto the top of the ricotta cheese layer.
  3. Place half of a cheese stick in the middle of each.
  4. Gently roll up the noodles up, carefully so as to not squeeze out all the fillings. However, you do want to make sure that they are secure. Place the roll-ups, seam side down, into you prepared pan and cook for 10-12 minutes.

You’ll know they are done when cheese has melted and the noodles are golden brown and a bit crispy on the outside.

Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and/or extra tomato sauce or parmesan cheese.

If there are any leftovers (this rarely happens in our house!) cover with foil or transfer to an airtight container and keep refrigerated for 2-3 days.

  • Give it a kick with a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes!

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Soften Oven Ready Lasagna Noodles for Roll Ups?

Oven-ready lasagna noodles are pasta that has been pre-cooked and then dried. That way it does not need to be boiled prior to making traditional lasagna, as the sauce itself will soften the noodles during baking.

However, when making roll-ups, the noodles need to be pliable so you can roll them up before cooking.

The solution is to give the oven ready lasagna noodles a quick boil โ€” for 3 minutes โ€” and then drain prior to making this dish. This will give the noodles just enough flexibility needed, without making them mushy. Doย not soak in a bowl of water, as thisย will make them mushy.

TIP: Add a pinch of salt to your large pot of water when quick boiling the noodles. Lightly salted water adds extra flavor to the pasta.

What Type of Pan Can You Use in an Air Fryer?

You can use any pan that is labeled “oven safe” in your air fryer, so long as it fits inside. Metal, glass, ceramic, silicone, etc. We used a metal pan for this recipe.

How Many Roll-Ups Does This Recipe Make?

This recipe, as written, yields 6 roll-ups. That’s what fit in our pan and it makes enough for each family member to have one roll-up. We usually serve our pasta dishes with a side of veggies to make healthy meal.

You can always double the recipe, roll them all up at once, and then cook in two batches. Each batch takes just 10 minutes to cook, so it’s still ready in about 30 minutes!
