Easy Gatorade Slushies

What’s more refreshing than Gatorade on a hot day? Gatorade slushies!!

Growing up, Gatorade was my go-to drink after a hard day of soccer practice. Back then we only had a few flavor options, but fruit punch was always my favorite.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of doing this sooner…but y’all…I am here to tell you that Gatorade slushies are LEGIT. As in, they are not only delicious, but they also give you all the re-hydrating benefits of Gatorade!

Kids love them, and it’s a fun alternative to the super-duper sugary slushies you get at a convenience store (another favorite of mine as a kid, I must admit!)

All you need is a blender, ice, Gatorade, and a pinch of sugar (I’ll explain why in the Prep Tips section). Let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • Gatorade – Or similar sports drink. We used one flavor per batch; you’ll need about a cup per batch.
  • Ice Cubes – We used a 4:1 ratio of ice to liquid.
  • Sugar – Sweetener is optional, but it can give the slushies a little pop of flavor and it also helps keep the ice from clumping together.

Yield: About 24 ounces, or 2-3 servings

Prep Tips

  • Sweetener is optional, but I recommend using a little bit in your slushies because it does help make the flavor of the Gatorade really stand out and not get watered down by the ice. More importantly, it keeps the ice from freezing up in big clumps and makes the slushies the perfect sip-able consistency. You can use regular granulated sugar, or you can swap with honey, sugar-free sweetener, etc.
  • Feel free to use your favorite flavors of Gatorade, or your favorite sports drink brand. We used one flavor per batch and made a couple different flavors to try.
  • If your slushies are too thick to drink with a straw, add another 1/4 cup of Gatorade and blend again. Keep adding sports drink little by little until you have a more drinkable consistency. On the other hand, if your slushies are too watery, you can add more ice.
  • The original recipe here is kid-friendly. However, you can totally add a little something extra to make it a grown-up drink! Vodka or rum would both work well. Try adding 1/4 cup of whichever spirit you choose to the mix.
