Reading is one of our favorite family activities, so when we heard that you can redeem a code found in specially marked Kellogg’s boxes for free Scholastic books, we headed over to Walmart to stock up. Good food plus free books definitely equals a win-win!
Lilu loves Rice Krispies, so we picked up a value-sized box. With a few healthy mix-ins (check out the easy recipe later in the post), you’ve got the perfect quick and nutritious breakfast or snack! We also grabbed a box of Special K Protein Bars for Mom and Dad to refuel after our daily workout.
Here’s how the program works:
Step One: Look for the “Free Book” logo on select Kellogg’s products. Here are some examples:
Step Two: Find the 16-digit code printed on the inside of the box.
Step Three: Sign up for the Kellogg’s Family Rewards Program.
Step Four: Once you’re a member, enter the 16-digit code and select which Scholastic book you’d like from over 80 full-length titles! Or if you’d rather, you can donate your book the the school of your choice.
It’s a simple program: 1 box = 1 book, and you can redeem up to 30 free books! (Purchases must be made between 7/21/15 and 9/11/15 and redeemed within 14 days of purchase date).
There are 3 ways you can upload your receipt: via text, via scanning into your computer or Kellogg’s Family Reward app. Even better, they ship the book to you free of charge!
Lilu was super excited to participate in this program, both for the delicious snacks she got to enjoy, as well as the books that are on the way! (The website says to please allow 6-8 weeks for your books to arrive, but many make it much sooner than that.)
Here is the simple, nutritious breakfast/snack recipe I created that she just couldn’t get enough of:
Creamy Coconut & Banana Rice Krispies
1 1/4 cup Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal
3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk (the thick, creamy kind in a can)
1 teaspoon raw sugar
1 medium banana, sliced
- Pour coconut milk into a cereal bowl.
- Stir in raw sugar for just a hint of sweetness.
- Add Rice Krispies Cereal.
- Top with sliced banana.
