Homemade Goldfish Crackers
When I was a kid, Goldfish Crackers were a staple snack in our house. That cheesy crunch is so yummy and is one of those nostalgic snacks that always takes me back to my childhood. And then I found out how easy it is to make your own Goldfish crackers at home!
Our homemade version really is SO easy, with just 4 real-food ingredients and no added preservatives or other extra stuff that you might find in the store-bought kind. Plus this homemade goldfish recipe makes a big batch of crispy cheese crackers so you have plenty to snack on or pack in lunchboxes for the whole week.
Once you make your own goldfish crackers, you’ll never go back! I think they taste even better than the packaged kind!

- Goldfish Cracker Cutter
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Food Processor
- Baking Sheet or Cookie Sheet
- Rolling Pin
- Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat
Instructions
To Prep: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or non-stick silicone baking mat.
- Add the flour, grated butter, and shredded cheese to a large bowl, mixing until combined. Transfer the cheese mixture to a food processor and pulse until you have coarse crumbs.
- Pulse in the water 1 Tablespoon at a time until the dough forms a cohesive ball. Mold the dough into a disc shape, wrap it up in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Use a goldfish cracker cutter to cut out as many goldfish as possible. Place the goldfish crackers on your prepared pan. Take the excess dough and re-roll it to cut out more cracker until you’ve used all of the dough.
- Use a toothpick to poke holes for the eyes and mouth of the goldfish. Bake in your 350-degree preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes until golden and crispy.
Prep Tips
- Cheese – We used sharp cheddar cheese for this recipe, to really get that perfect Goldfish flavor. You could use regular cheddar cheese if that’s what you have on hand.
- Storage – Keep leftover crackers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Yield – The exact number of crackers will depend on the size of your fish cookie cutter, but you should get in the range of 100-200 little crackers.
- Variations – If you prefer saltier crackers, you can add a up teaspoon of salt to the dough before mixing and baking. You can also make this a gluten-free recipe by substituting the regular flour with gluten free all purpose flour.
- Cutting the Crackers – If you don’t have a goldfish cookie cutter, you can simply cut the dough into small squares, kind of like Cheez-its.
