We layered mason jars with our hot cocoa pancake ingredients, so they’re all ready to go. All you have to do is add the wet ingredients when you’re ready to cook them.

These Peppermint Pancake Jars turned out beautifully! They make thrifty and festive gifts for friends, family, teachers, neighbors, etc.

We love to make food gifts so that way we can wish everyone on our list a Merry Christmas, without breaking our holiday budget!

This is a super simple project that kids can help make, and we’ve even included a video tutorial at the bottom of the post to show you how it’s done.

To Make Your Hot Cocoa Pancakes

This is how to to prepare the pancakes, using the mix that’s in your jar.

Important: Before cooking, remove the peppermint candies from the jar and set aside. You can either finely crush the candies and add to the batter, or rough crush and add to the top of cooked pancakes as a festive garnish.

Empty out the remainder of the mason jar contents into a large mixing bowl.

To your bowl of dry ingredients add:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, melted

TIP: We printed the above ingredients on our labels, so that our gift recipients would know how to make the pancakes using our mix.

Heat a frying pan or flat griddle pan over medium heat and add a pat of butter to pan.

Add a 1/2 cup of the pancake batter into the pan and cook for 2 minutes, until the surface is covered in air bubbles, then flip and cook on the other side.

Repeat with remaining batter.

TIP: You can cook more than one pancake at a time, just be sure to leave a little space between them for easier flipping.

  1. At the top it says 1/2 cup chocolate chips but at the bottom it says 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Confusing. I also had no problem fitting this in a pint jar. The quart jar is way too big.
