How to Polish Wine Glasses Like a Pro
I was invited recently to attend a local event sponsored by Viva® Towels. We learned some really awesome ways to switch up some of our everyday routines, and I wanted to share a couple of my favorites that have been SO useful!
Our house is generally the go-to spot for holiday and birthday celebrations with friends and family. My husband is a chef so by nature, he loves to feed people. I was a Sommelier in my previous career, so I’m in charge of the wine.
It’s no coincidence that I amassed quite a collection of crystal stemware as wedding gifts — since I have so many, I love to serve my guests with proper glassware. The only problem is that it is so tough to get those crystal glasses to shine without leaving any lint behind!
I’ve bought special polishing cloths that do work well, but they are a pain because they require special cleaning. Paper towels are usually out of the question because they leave lint everywhere, which almost looks worse than the water spots did in the first place!
At the Viva® Vantage® event, one of the things they showed us was how Viva® paper towels are almost totally lint-free! We even got to test them out for ourselves on some regular drinking glasses. The result speaks for itself — wow!
After the event we were encouraged to make a “7-Day Switch Up,” and trade our old paper towels for the stretchy-strength of Viva® Vantage®. I gladly took the challenge as I couldn’t wait to try them out on my beautiful wine glasses.
I was not disappointed — one single Viva® Vantage® towel can polish multiple wine glasses to perfection in minutes!
How to Polish Wine Glasses Like a Pro:
STEP ONE: Bring a medium sauce pan of water to a rolling boil. Turn off heat and leave uncovered so the steam can escape.
STEP TWO: Hold wine glass by the stem and turn upside-down over the pot of water, allowing the steam to thoroughly fog up the inside of the glass. Rotate glass so steam covers the outside surface as well.
STEP THREE: Use one Viva® towel to hold the outside of the glass without putting fingerprints on the surface. Use another Viva® towel to wipe the steam from the inside, removing all water marks and streaks. Repeat on the outside. (Hold wine glass no more than about 6-8 inches over a folded cloth towel, just in case it slips out of your hands.)
**TIP: If there are any lipstick marks on the glass, try dipping just the rim into the boiling water for a few seconds and polish again. They should come right off!
STEP FOUR: Hold glass by the stem and with your polishing towel (which should be slightly damp now), wipe the bottom of the glass too. This is probably the most-missed area, but those water marks on the bottom of the glass really show! Since you’re already in polishing mode, it’s so easy to take a few extra seconds to be thorough.
The final result is amazing, and it only took a few minutes with Viva® Vantage®. I’m so excited to have learned this! Now I don’t have to dig up my polishing rag (and hope it’s clean!) when I want to enjoy wine in a sparkling glass!
While at the Viva® Vantage® event, we also learned another trick that will save so much time the next time you’re serving wine. If you’re trying to chill a bottle of white wine in a hurry, wet a Viva® paper towel, wrap around the wine bottle, and place in the freezer. Your wine will be ready to serve in half the time!
There are so many ways to use Viva® Vantage® in the kitchen, from using as a strainer to rinse veggies, to placing a damp Viva® towel under a cutting board to keep it from slipping.
You might even be able to think of some more ways to switch up your kitchen routine, and you could win awesome prizes while you’re at it! Make your own 7-Day Switch-Up: Visit Viva® Towels for a $1 off coupon to get started, then share your switch for a chance to win a $100 gift card!
