The Benefits of a Special Bedtime Routine

The bedtime routine is a big deal in our house! The whole thing can take almost an hour, but the girls love it so much and both of them are happy to go to sleep at the end. By making it a special occasion, bedtime is something the girls look forward to.
Here are some of the benefits of a bedtime routine:
- Kids are less resistant because it is a fun activity and they don’t feel like they’re being rushed off to bed.
- It is quality time spent together as a family enjoying each other’s company without distraction.
- Routine is very reassuring for kids and the bedtime traditions will become something they can count on.
Here’s what our bedtime routine looks like:
First, we get everyone bathed and dressed in pajamas.
Next, it’s back to the bathroom to brush teeth, which is the most rambunctious part of the night. I look at it as “getting the sillies out” before settling down and going to bed. Both girls brush (Annabelle with a little help) while I have the honor of performing a much-personalized version of the classic “Brush Your Teeth” song by Raffi. (Correction: “Mr. and Mrs. Sock” sing! I’m not sure how this particular tradition started, but they get a kick out of my sock puppets with funny voices.)
Finally, we head to Lilu’s room for bedtime story and goodnights. Since my husband is in the food truck business, he sometimes has to work late. On those nights, he can still say goodnight with our new CloudPets™ Kitty.
It’s pretty easy: you simply download the app to your smart phone, create a profile, connect your CloudPet™ and you’re ready to go! Check out this video to see how it works. There’s even parental controls and security features that allow you to approve every message your child receives.
Before my husband leaves for work in the morning, he takes a couple of minutes to record a special goodnight message for the girls on my phone. If he’s in a hurry, he can record the message on his phone at work and send it to mine so I can link up to our CloudPet™ at bedtime.
When it’s time to go to bed, I send Daddy’s pre-recorded message to “Bubbles,” as Lilu named our CloudPet™, and the girls can hear his special goodnight through their huggable stuffed animal. You can also play games with your CloudPet™ (though we don’t do this at bedtime) or send lullabies to play for a fixed length of time if your little one likes to be soothed to sleep.
Picking out our special new friend was part of the fun– Lilu choose the CloudPets™ Kitty. CloudPets™ are available at select Walmart stores, but will be nationwide soon. Just look for the big sign that says “As Seen on TV” located next to the registers in the front of the store!
CloudPets™ do require 3 AA batteries; these should be available in the same area.
Our bedtime routine is a little bit time-consuming, a little bit silly, and sometimes a little bit loud, but it makes going to sleep something that the girls anticipate instead of avoiding. Plus, it brings the entire family together! Our CloudPet™ allows Daddy to “be there” too, even if he’s stuck at work.
How would you use your CloudPets™? I’d love to hear your ideas!

This sounds like a fun bedtime routine. I need to come up with something like this for my son, who is a night owl. He has a CloudPets Puppy and he likes to listen to the lullabies that I can send to it from my phone as well. [client]
The routine definitely seems to calm them down (AFTER we get the sillies out) and they are mentally prepared for bedtime. Plus it’s fun 🙂 We like the lullabies too!
