Slice the apples and place into a bowl of lemon juice or lime juice to prevent browning. Be sure to remove any seeds.
Cut celery hearts into pieces that are about 3-4 inches long.
Add the Filling
If making sweet snacks, fill the celery with peanut butter.
If making savory snacks, fill the celery with cream cheese.
Decorate
Create your cute critter snacks by topping the peanut butter filled celery with grapes or blueberries to make caterpillars, pretzel twists to make butterflies, and sliced apples to make snails.
If using cream cheese, add tomatoes to make caterpillars.
Finish
To make the bug snacks look even more life-like, you can add candy eyes. Add a little dollop of peanut butter to the back of each eye to hold in place.
Notes
Safety: For children under 5, cut grapes and grape tomatoes in half lengthwise. Place cut-side down so they still look like whole bugs.
Serving: Assemble on the serving platter to prevent tipping. For extra stability, trim a thin slice from the bottom of each celery stalk to create a flat base.
