Fabulous New Years Eve Style on a Soccer Mom Budget
In my past life, I had a reputation of being a trendsetter. I was, after all, voted Best Dressed St. Albans High School Class of 2003. However, even though I swore it would never happen, there are times when I feel like I don’t worry very much (or at all) about how I am dressed.
New Years Eve is another story — it’s one night that just about everyone gets to dress up, whether for a party at a friends house or dinner out with your sweetheart. Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean your style has to suffer! AND you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks on a big night out!
These are my three tips for Fabulous New Years Eve Style:
1- Mix old and new. With a whole family to worry about, I don’t have the budget to buy a completely new outfit for every single special occasion. However, treating yourself to one new item (even if it is something small like a belt or bracelet) can make your outfit feel new.
2- Mix basics and trendy items. When I was younger, I could pull of wearing a whole bunch of trendy things at once. (Lace-trimmed leggings, oversized t-shirt, dangly earrings…gotta love the 90s!) I would feel a little silly doing the same thing today and probably seem as if I was trying to look like a teenager! Use one trendy piece (like the skirt) to add a pop to your outfit and stick to basics (button-up blouse) for the rest to keep it classy and age-appropriate.
3- Mix high/low price items. Even though the skirt is new, it was surprisingly affordable. I purchased the blouse at Target a couple years ago, so I know it wasn’t more than $20. The shoes were a bit of a “splurge,” as they are MICHAEL Michael Kors, BUT they are actually comfortable (really!) and they match just about everything, so I’ve gotten tons of use from them. I’d rather buy one pair of $100 shoes that I wear for years than 10 pairs of $20 shoes that I only use a handful of occasions. Plus, adding something “fancy” will elevate your look and add a bit of polish. You’ll look like you spent a lot of money on the entire outfit! (Here’s the same pair on Amazon…they come in tons of colors and I’m eyeing the gold ones for spring!)

Very nice cloths.
I’m biased! But I think there’s nothing prettier than a mom. You ladies got it right with your NYE attire!
