Cold and flu season is upon us, but who has time to be sick? I like to be proactive and do everything in my power to naturally boost my immune system. That way my body can fight off bugs BEFORE they have a chance to bring me down.
Lately I’ve been all about my new “immunity boosting tea” that I created with two varieties of Bigelow Tea, real fruit, and a hint of natural honey.
Why is this immunity boosting tea so awesome?
Well for one, it’s full of antioxidants (from both the green tea and fresh blueberries) which can help fight off free radicals that damage our bodies cells. Green tea also has a bit of caffeine, which provides a little energy boost, so you feel better right away. I use honey as a natural sweetener, and because it it is reputed to have immunity boosting properties as well. Oh, and of course this tea is delicious and smells fantastic! Such a lovely way to start your day!
Here’s how to easily brew this immunity boosting tea with a regular coffee maker:
STEP ONE: Place coffee filter inside machine as you normally would. (I used two since they were pretty thin). Add a handful of fresh blueberries (about 1/4 cup).
STEP TWO: Gently crush blueberries just enough to allow the juices to be released during the brewing process/
STEP THREE: Add 2 Bigelow Lemon Ginger tea bags and 2 Bigelow Green Tea bags.
STEP FOUR: Add 4 cups water to reservoir and brew.
STEP FIVE: Pour tea into a mug and stir in 1 teaspoon of honey. Enjoy!
Makes approximately 2 servings. If you’d like to brew more to share with friends or drink throughout the day, just up the number of tea bags used: 1 additional teabag per cup of water added. You can also brew this immunity boosting tea in a teapot on the stove, just be sure to pour through a strainer to keep blueberries in the pot and not your cup.
Tip: Run the brew cycle once with only water prior to making this tea to clean out any coffee residue. This way you’ll get the best flavor!
Other ways I help prepare my body for cold and flu season:
- Drink LOTS of water — Our cells are comprised mainly of water, so hydration is crucial to keeping them healthy.
- Get plenty of sleep — I know, I know, this can be tough! However, sleep is when our bodies heal and rejuvenate, so getting 7-8 hours will allow your body to do the work it needs to do to stay healthy.
- Exercise — A strong body is a healthy body!
Why do I choose Bigelow Tea for my Immunity Boosting Tea recipe? I’ve actually been a fan of Bigelow Tea since I first started drinking tea as a teenager. Bigelow is a trusted name (they’ve been making top quality tea for 70 years!) and I love how rich and fresh the flavors are. Plus, it’s affordable and easy to find at your local Walmart (tea usually has it’s own section and Bigelow makes up a big chunk of it!)
