Lucky Charms Hot Cocoa Bombs
A magical spin on hot cocoa bombs that will make St. Patrick’s Day extra special for the kids! These Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs are colorful, delicious, and so much fun!
St. Patrick’s Day Hot Chocolate Bombs
We made our first batch of hot chocolate bombs a few months after a family friend let us in on them. They were such a hit that we’ve been all about new recipes for different occasions, like these Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs for Christmas.

Lucky Charms was one of my favorite cereals as a kid, but let’s be real….it was ALL about those yummy little marshmallows!
That’s why we skipped the cereal itself for our Lucky Charms Hot Cocoa Bombs and just used the marshmallows — who knew they sold the marshmallows by themselves? How cool is that??
Lucky Charms Cocoa Bomb Ingredients
Iโve provided this quick list of shop-able ingredients for your convenience; disclosure policy here. A free printable copy of this recipe, with full ingredient amounts, is available at the bottom of the post.
- White chocolate melting wafers
- Candy Melts — We used pink, blue, green, and yellow, but you don’t have to use all of the colors. You could even drizzle white chocolate only, so the marshmallows really pop!
- Jet-Puffed Lucky Charms Marshmallows
- White chocolate hot cocoa
- Lucky Charms dehydrated marshmallows โIf you can’t find the exact “Lucky Charms” brand, look for “assorted dehydrated cereal marshmallows” as they’ll be really similar
Kitchen Tools Used
- Semi sphere chocolate molds โ They may also be searchable as hot chocolate bomb molds
- Double boiler pan โ for melting the chocolate (or you can use microwave safe bowl instead)
- Saucepan โ for heating the milk
Can You Use Regular Hot Chocolate Mix?
We filled our cocoa bombs with white hot chocolate, as you can see in the photos. However, if you have regular hot cocoa on hand at home, you can totally use it! The only difference will be that the hot chocolate will be darker in color. It will still taste amazing!
How to Make Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs
Use a double boiler to melt the white chocolate wafers. You can also do this in the microwave, heating in 20-30 second intervals and stirring between, until melted and smooth. Be sure to use a microwave safe bowl and handle with care, as the bowl may become hot. If making with kids, an adult should do this part!
Add a generous spoonful of melted chocolate to each mold and use the back of a spoon to guide the white chocolate up the sides of the mold. Do this slowly so that the chocolate starts to set as you work.
When all the molds are filled, place in the freezer to chill for 10 minutes.
Check your chocolate semi-spheres — if they don’t easily pop out of the mold or appear flimsy, add another layer of white chocolate and chill again.
When you have solid chocolate shells, pop them out of the mold onto your workspace.
Take half of the shells and fill with 2 Tablespoons of white cocoa powder and a few of the large Lucky Charms marshmallows.
Once you’re ready to make your cocoa bombs, heat a ceramic plate in the microwave for 45 seconds. Again, an adult should handle this step. Use a towel to remove the plate from microwave, as it will be hot (that’s what we want!)
Take one of your empty shells and press the edge onto the hot plate so that it starts to melt. Take this melted edge and connect to one of the filled shells. Press and hold so the chocolate sets and you have a full sphere.
Repeat until you’ve made all of your hot chocolate bombs.
To decorate ours, we drizzled with a few bright colors of candy melts. They’re super easy to use — just melt according to package directions and drizzle on top of your cocoa bombs.
While the chocolate drizzle is still wet, press the dehydrated Lucky Charms marshmallows on top to finish them.
How Do You Use a Hot Chocolate Bomb?
To enjoy, you’ll want to heat up a saucepan of milk. I prefer to do this on the stovetop because I can make a batch big enough for multiple kids. Also, when you heat any liquid in the microwave there’s always a risk that it will explode…and we don’t want that!
Place a cocoa bomb in the bottom of a mug and slowly pour the hot milk on top. It doesn’t need to be boiling, steaming is hot enough.
The cocoa bombs will start to melt on their own right away! This is the fun part!
You can speed things up by stirring your cocoa, which also makes sure that all of the chocolate melts and you have a rich, creamy cup of white hot chocolate.

Ingredients
- White chocolate melting wafers
- Candy Melts Pink, Green, Blue, and Yellow
- Jet-Puffed Lucky Charms Marshmallows

- Lucky Charms dehydrated marshmallows
Instructions
- Melt white chocolate wafers using a double boiler. You can also use a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring between, until smooth.
- Pour a Tablespoon or so of melted white chocolate in each mold and use the back of a spoon to slowly guide the chocolate up the sides of the mold, so that it sets as you spread it.
- Chill for 10 minutes in freezer. If the chocolate does not pop easily out of the mold or seems weak, add another layer of white chocolate and chill again. Remove from molds.
- Add about 2 tbsp of cocoa powder to half of your molds, along with 4-5 of the large Lucky Charms large marshmallows. Leave the other half of your molds empty, as they will be the tops of your cocoa bombs.
- Heat a ceramic plate in the microwave for about 45 seconds. Remove carefully, as it will be hot.
- Take the empty chocolate half-spheres and press the top edge onto the hot plate for a few seconds to melt the chocolate. Place on top of the filled halves and hold together until the chocolate sets and you have a full sphere. Repeat with all of your cocoa bombs.
- If using colorful candy melts to decorate, now it the time to melt them. Do so according to package directions and drizzle on top of your cocoa bombs.
- While the chocolate drizzle is still wet, press a few of the dehydrated marshmallows on top and allow them to set.
- To enjoy, place a cocoa bomb in the bottom of a mug and pour hot milk over top. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted.
