10 Fun & Frugal Mother Daughter Activities
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney Junior at Walmart for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
What is your ideal Mother’s Day? For me, I love nothing more than to spend a relaxing day at home with my family, just being together. Oh, and I love hand-written cards!
These mother daughter activities are perfect for a simple Mother’s Day at home — but you don’t have to wait for a special occasion — they’re just as much fun on a regular old weekday! Even better, they cost very little or are free to do!
10 FUN & FRUGAL MOTHER DAUGHTER ACTIVITIES
– PHOTO ACTIVITIES –
As daughters of a blogger, my girls see me taking photos ALL the time — and of course they want to be just like mom! My oldest daughter is allowed to use my point and shoot camera (with supervision) and my youngest has a pretend camera. She loves to run around telling us to “say cheese!” (Yes, the camera is backwards, and yes that is exactly how she wants it!)
Photo Scavenger Hunt — Make a list of things for your kids to find, either inside or in the yard. When they find an item on the list, they can take a photo (real or pretend) and cross that item off the list.
Photo “I Spy” — Similar to a scavenger hunt, but with you leading the way! You’ll spot a particular item and give a clue: I spy something green! Your kid(s) then get to try to figure out what it is you’re looking at and take a photo.
– DRESS UP ACTIVITIES –
Fashion Show — Dress your little ones up in fun outfits and have them walk the runway while you announce them. You can play music, take photos, and just be silly with it! Minnie Mouse is my younger daughter’s favorite Disney Junior character (actually her favorite character altogether!) and she LOVES to put on her adorable Minnie Mouse dresses (like this Minnie Mouse Toddler Girl 2-Fer Dress) and spin around. She usually ends her routine with outstretched arms and a loud “TA-DAAA!”
Character Dress-Up — Whether she’s wearing a full Minnie Mouse costume, like this Minnie Bow-Tique Fancy Bows Dress with Headband or her casual and comfy Minnie Mouse Toddler Girl T-Shirt Dress, my daughter loves to pretend she is Minnie Mouse herself! I love to engage her imagination by asking her what she is doing — usually she tells me that she is with the rest of the Disney Junior crew!
“Mousekercise” — My younger daughter loves the “Mousekercise” routine mini-segments on Disney Junior between shows. I like to have some of these recorded so we can play along, and it’s double the fun when we’re dressed like the characters!
– OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES –
Bubbles — Whether they’re making the bubbles or chasing and popping the bubbles that I blow, bubbles are always a hit! You can even make your own bubble wands with pipe-cleaners and dish soap for your bubble solution. Easy-peasy and inexpensive spring and summer fun!
Playground — Sometimes we’ll take a walk to our neighborhood park, other days we’ll just head to the backyard! Swinging and sliding are favorite pastimes, and nothing burns energy (read: helps the girls sleep better at night!) then getting outside and getting active!
Go for a walk — We have our special route that goes around my oldest daughter’s school, and takes about 20 minutes. The girls love to see what’s new in the neighborhood
– INDOOR ACTIVITIES –
Restaurant — My husband owns a food truck and does all the cooking in our house, so my girls are well-versed in kitchen techniques from watching him! My younger daughter has the Disney Minnie Bowtastic Kitchen Playset and she loves to “cook” for me. This set is so much fun and under $20 at Walmart (totally worth it for the hours of entertainment it provides!)
Making Cupcakes — My mom actually started this when she babysat for me one afternoon. She filled a bowl with beans and gave my younger daughter measuring cups and silicon cupcake liners to play with. My daughter never tired of pouring beans from bowl, to cup, to cupcake liner, and back to the bowl again and she was SO proud to show me the “cupcakes” she baked when I returned home!
This Mother’s Day, I plan to keep it simple, and these are some of the mother daughter activities that we both enjoy! This is such a special time, when both of them want to be my “MinnieMe” and I want to soak in every bit of it!
All of the Disney Jr. Minnie Mouse items featured in this post are available at Walmart — they are so adorable and I love how they make my daughters’ faces light up!
