School Morning Hacks to Get Out the Door…Fast!

Parenting Tips

These school morning hacks saved our reputation!!

Make life easier and get out the door in a jiffy with these school morning hacks for families! Kids lunch ideas, packing checklist, easy hair styles & more!

It sounds a little dramatic, but I’ll be honest — our family used to struggle to get out the door in the morning.

5 School Morning Hacks to Get Out the Door…Fast!

This year I made the commitment that we will not simply be on time, we will be early for school! So far, our new routine is a big success. The key was finding ways to do less in the morning, and these five school morning hacks did just that!

1. Pack backpack after finishing homework

We always organize and pack my daughter’s backpack immediately after she finishes her homework each afternoon. That way all we have to do the next morning is slip in her lunchbox and go!

I love this handy checklist from JDaniel4’s Mom that allows kids to take ownership and do the packing themselves.

An easy organization system will ensure you don’t forget important items in the morning rush.

2. Lay out clothes the night before

In the morning, every minute is precious when you’re trying to get out the door on time! Fumbling through drawers and trying to match clothes with sleepy eyes takes longer than you’d think.

Choosing an outfit the night before is one less thing to worry about in the morning. It’s also an opportunity to help kids learn to match colors, without feeling rushed.

3. Improve your child’s mood

Last year I discovered this trick which helped my daughter wake up in a good mood. It absolutely changed our mornings!

A happy child moves quicker and does’t grumble or drag their feet. If everyone works together, it’s much easier to get ready in a timely manner.

4. Simplify lunches

My husband and I pack our daughter’s lunch each morning. We like to know that she is getting a balanced meal with the nutrition she needs to stay focused throughout the day.

On days when we’re in a hurry, I start with a Sandwich Bros Flatbread Pocket Sandwich. Pop it in the microwave and then pop it into the lunchbox — it couldn’t be easier! Plus, they’re packed with protein, which provides lasting energy.

Tip: I actually microwave for 10-15 less than the recommended cooking time. This allows the sandwich to keep it’s fluffy texture and be cooked through, but not steam up the lunchbox.

My daughter’s favorite variety are the Chicken Melts. The first day she tried a Sandwich Bros Flatbread Pocket Sandwich, my daughter made sure to let me we’ve found a keeper. “It’s really…really tasty!”

Sandwich Bros products are available at most major retailers like Kroger or Sam’s Club. To locate a store in your area and snag a $1 off coupon, CLICK HERE.

These are some of our go-to healthy lunchbox fillers that are also quick to prepare:

  • grapes
  • strawberries
  • cashews
  • sesame crackers
  • cheese squares
  • popcorn

5. 30-second hair styles

If you have a little girl, then you know the struggle of combing tangles and fixing hair while in a hurry. I’m admittedly not a pro at hair, but I still want my daughter to look nice and feel confident. So I had to step up my hair game!

I created these 30-second hairstyles for girls that are easy, fast, and adorable — if I can do them, anyone can! My daughter actually can do one of the styles herself, so she is able to fix her hair if it gets messy during school.

This school year is off to a great start, in no small part to our new routine (and these time-saving school morning hacks)! Do you have any tips to get ready for school quickly? Share them below!
