Chompin’ Foam Shark Puppet – Shark Week 2019 Kids Craft
Get ready for Shark Week 2019 with this fun foamย Chompin’ Shark Puppet!
Chompin’ Foam Shark Puppet for Shark Week 2019
This super easy kids craft lets kids gobble up imaginary fish along with the sharks on the big screen. (And if they decide to nibble their siblings or you, this puppet is made out of foam so it’s completely harmless!)
What is Shark Week?
Shark Week is a week of shark-themed programming on the Discovery Channel. The first Shark Week took place in July 1988 with the goal of changing misconceptions about sharks as well as promoting conservation efforts.
Over time, Shark Week has turned into a worldwide phenomenon! Fans mark their calendars weeks and even months in advance and celebrate with shark-themed recipes (like these Baby Shark Oreos and Shark Lollipops) and crafts, like our Shark Puppets!
When is Shark Week?
Shark Week usually takes place in July. Shark Week 2019 starts on July 29, 2019. Are you ready??
Let’s get crafting!

How to Make a Chompin’ Shark Puppet
First, watch our easy video tutorial to see how we made this foam shark puppet. Then keep reading for photo step by-step directions and printable instructions.
Click video to play:
Using strong rubber bands, secure the jumbo wooden craft sticks into an “X” shape.
Print the free shark puppet patternย and cut out the two pieces. Trace pattern onto a sheet of blue craft foam and cut out the foam shark pieces.
Cut a circle out of white craft foam (about the size of a quarter). This will be your shark’s eyeball.
Use a hot glue gun to secure the foam pieces to craft sticks โย one foam piece attached to each stickย โ so that the pointy “teeth” are facing each other. Attach the white foam eye and use a black marker to draw a pupil in the middle.
Allow glue to dry completely, then get chomping!
NOTE: You can use other types of glue, though we used a hot glue gun because it will hold well. Always supervise children with a hot glue gun or do this step yourself, depending on their age and capability.
