Who said veggie burgers are boring? These Cuban BBQ Veggie Burgers are smokey, sweet, and wildly flavorful! Oh, and they’re super easy to make!

I participated in Mom Blog Tour Natural Products Expo West (#MomBlogTourFF) on behalf of Wendy’s Bloggers. I received Dr. Praeger’s products to facilitate my review, but my opinions and creative content are my own.

Who said veggie burgers are boring? These Cuban BBQ Veggie Burgers are smokey, sweet, and wildly flavorful! Oh, and they're super easy to make!

Cuban Veggie Burgers with Guava Barbecue Sauce

My husband’s stepfather is Cuban, so he grew up around Cuban food. When my husband created his own food truck business a couple years ago, it only made sense to incorporate the Cuban flavors he knew so well!

One of the most popular items on the menu was his Cuban Burger, which featured a smokey and sweet guava barbecue sauce. We use it at home all the time — it’s a family favorite!

The unique flavors of the guava barbecue sauce are the perfect accompaniment to Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burgers. Luckily, my husband agreed to share a shortcut versions his “secret” recipe so you can try it at home too!

How to Make Cuban BBQ Veggie Burgers

To make the guava barbecue sauce:

Combine barbecue sauce and guava paste in a saucepan over medium low heat. Whisk until warm and there are no more lumps. Remove from heat and set aside.

To prepare your veggie burgers:

Cook your Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burgers according to directions on the box. We used a flat plate to get a little sear on the outside (extra flavor!)

Layer brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion, warm veggie burger, and guava barbecue sauce.

TIP: Try these Crispy Baked Purple Kale Chips on your veggie burger in place of lettuce!

About Dr. Praeger’s Purely Sensible Foods

I was introduced to Dr. Praeger’s products at Natural Products Expo West with the Mom Blog Tour and I became an instant fan!

I enjoy veggie-based foods, but they are not all created equal. However, every Dr. Praeger’s item I sampled was rich and flavorful — you’d never guess just how many veggies they pack into every bite! As a mom, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate more vegetables into my daughters’ meals, and Dr. Praeger’s makes it easy.

For this Cuban BBQ Veggie Burger recipe, we used Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burgers because they are the original and most popular veggie burger offering from the company. Carrots, peas, broccoli and spinach are the stars of these vegetarian patties (no fillers here!) and they offer 5 grams of protein.

Where to buy: Dr. Praeger’s Purely Sensible Foods are available at most Kroger locations nationwide, and here in Texas they are also available at H.E.B. stores.
