Family Initial DIY Wedding Card Collage
For months our wedding cards sat tucked away in a drawer. I couldn’t bring myself to toss them, but really, how often does one go back through and read them all?
Tackling clutter is a daily battle for me, and stacks of cards, letters, school papers, and the like– no matter how beloved–are one of the biggest perpetrators.
This week inspiration struck– I thought of a way to honor the sweet wedding cards from our friends and family that we could enjoy every day. What I pictured in my mind is almost exactly what materialized as I got working, and I LOVE the result:
The entire project cost about $30– that was for the frame and the black poster paper. Other than that, all you need is scissors, glue, and your wedding cards!
STEP ONE: Use the place-holder paper from the frame to trace and cut your background (I used black matte poster board) to the correct size:
STEP TWO: Draw out the shape of the your initial on the back of the place-holder paper and cut:
STEP THREE: Cut out the parts of the cards you want to include on your collage. Glue onto the letter:
STEP FOUR: Once the entire front of the letter is covered, flip over and cut off the excess. Glue finished letter to the black background:
Frame and enjoy! Ours in hanging in our living room, so I’m reminded on a daily basis of the amazing celebration that was our wedding.
Tips: Hubby suggested that I outline the letter with glitter pen (which I didn’t have on hand at the time) and I may take his advice– an outline could make the collage really pop! Another idea I had that I’m debating is using a metallic marker to write the wedding date somewhere on the background. There are lots of ways you could make this project your own!
