Prep Tips

  • Garnishes – To really get that hot cocoa flavor, we topped our dip with mini chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. For the holiday season, crushed candy cane pieces or Christmas sprinkles would also be a festive touch!
  • Variations – Add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the recipe before blending to create a warm and spicy Mexican hot chocolate dip!
  • Storage – This dip can be made ahead of time and kept refrigerated for 1-2 days in an airtight container. If preparing in advance, I recommend waiting to add garnishes until you’re ready to serve.ย If you are storing the dip for more than a day, consider adding a layer of plastic wrap directly on top of the dip before putting on the lid, to create an extra barrier and keep the dip fresher.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Can You Serve With Hot Cocoa Dip?

This delicious creamy chocolate dip tastes fantastic with just about any sweet treat! Here are some of our favorite things to use for dipping:

  • Fresh fruit such as strawberries or apple slices
  • Pretzels
  • Animal crackers
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Graham crackers
  • Chocolate chip cookies
  • Milano cookies
  • Wafer cookies
  • Oreos

…or you can just eat it with a spoon! Not that I would do that…ok…I would totally do that!!

Can You Use Real Whipped Cream?

For this recipe you may notice that we used whipped topping (such as Cool Whip) rather than real dairy whipped cream. Whipped topping is made with stabilizers, so it keeps its fluffy consistency. Dairy whipped cream will start to liquify over time, so the dip won’t stay as dip-able. I’m all about real food ingredients, but in this case, whipped topping is the way to go!
