National Cheese Lover’s Day – Cheesy Joke Book Craft

In honor of National Cheese Lover’s Day, I’m sharing a very cheesy family tradition, a fun family activity, AND a giveaway! Sponsored by Chuck E. Cheese’s

How to create lasting memories with a family joke book -- a fun activity for National Cheese Lover's Day or any time!

National Cheese Lover’s Day is January 20th

If your family is in holiday withdrawal after Christmas, fear not, there are TONS of other fun and unique holidays for kids throughout the year!

January 20th is National Cheese Lover’s Day, so if you love all things cheese, then this is definitely worth celebrating!

How to Make a Cheesy Joke Book

If you really want to have fun with the National Cheese Lover’s Day theme, try making a cheesy joke book with all your kids’ favorite funnies! It’s easy to do and it is something you’ll treasure for years to come.

My family has a thing for jokes — cheesy jokes. They’re actually really bad, but I like to think they’re so bad they’re good! When I was in junior high, I had the amazing idea to document the “best” of the bunch in a family joke book.

I made a scrapbook (I used the 8″ x 6″ size) with pages dedicated to certain people (like my Grandpa who started it all) and themes (of course there are chicken jokes and knock-knock jokes). The supplies I used were colorful scrapbook paper, stickers, family photos, and markers, and the result was a book that truly reflected our family and brings back wonderful memories.

The tradition starts with my Grandpa, who had a few favorite jokes that he would recite for us from time to time. My dad is also notorious for his incredibly cheesy puns.

My oldest daughter showed a knack for cheesy jokes at a very young age. In the early days, her punchline usually involved someone eating mud.

Yep, mud — gotta love preschool humor! Her skills have improved, and she now loves to spontaneously bust out knock-knock jokes. This was her first “signature” joke:

Knock, knock.

-Who’s there?

Cart.

-Cart who?

Can we watch cartoons?

I love her originality and enthusiasm! She actually tells knock knock jokes so often that her younger sister now loves to join in too. Even at 20 months old, she started calling out “Knoknooocck! Who dere?”

For National Cheese Lover’s Day this year, I got out my old family joke book and shared it with the girls. They were thrilled to see something that I had made when I was younger, and add some new funnies to their repertoire.

There are actually still some blank pages remaining in the book because I had planned on adding to it at a later time. I’m sure I had intended to work on it again before 20 years had gone by, but how perfect that I didn’t! I know that the girls and I will have so much fun updating the family joke book with our new Rodriguez family favorites.

In honor of National Cheese Lover’s Day, Chuck E. Cheese’s created a new thin crust pizza recipe. It’s soooo good! Have you tried it yet?
