“Piece of my Heart” Kid Valentine Card Craft
As a parent, nothing melts my heart more than a homemade Valentine’s Day card from my girls!
This year we made this “piece of my heart” Valentine’s Day card and it turned out to be the cutest thing! I love that it’s easy enough for older kids to make themselves and younger kids to make with assistance.
This would also be a lovely classroom craft for kids to take home to their parents. Super easy and only basic supplies needed! We’ve even included a free printable pattern for you!

How to make a pop-up puzzle piece keepsake Valentine’s Day Card
Fold a piece of red construction paper in half and cut to form a heart shape when it opens. (You can also use our free heart pattern here).
Print the free puzzle piece pattern (available here) and cut. (You can also use any extra puzzle piece that you have on hand as long as it will fit on the inside of your card and is large enough to trace over a kids face). Lay the puzzle piece pattern over the photo you plan to use and trace. Cut out the photo so that none of your tracing lines are visible.
Cut two strips of construction paper, each one about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. Arrange so that the strips are perpendicular, with two ends meeting. Glue those ends together.
Fold the strips over each other, alternating sides as you fold, until the other ends meet. Glue these ends together.
You should have a small “spring,” almost like a jack-in-the-box.
Glue one end of this paper spring to the inside of your heart card. Glue your puzzle piece shaped photograph to the top of the paper spring.
In the space left on the inside of your heart card, write a Valentine’s Day message. Here’s what ours said:
I’ll always be a piece of your heart!
Feel free to decorate the front and inside of your card as your imagination sees fit!
