Everyone loves the look of bright white shoe soles, BUT they get dirty so easily! It’s always such a bummer when your new shoes get their first scuff or start to show dirt. However I found an unexpected way to quickly whiten shoe soles without buying expensive shoe cleaner.
Every time I have purchased a new pair of sneakers, the sales associate inevitably pulls out a bottle of pricey shoe polish or a special brush and attempts to talk me into buying them as well. These add-ons can cost up to $20 — I don’t think so!
The good news is that I found a much more affordable solution! It’s actually a household cleaning product that I already keep on hand: Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes with Micro-Scrubbers.
I’ve been a fan of Clorox Disinfecting Wipes since I discovered them a couple years ago. They are so versatile and effective, even on tough dirt and grime. They’re my favorite for cleaning my kitchen and bathroom. A couple weeks ago, while discussing his dirty shoes laying by the door, my husband mused “I wonder if the Clorox wipes would clean my shoes?”
The answer is yes! For my workout shoes, the job was SUPER easy. They were dirtier than I thought, but one wipe and five minutes was enough to restore them to a pristine white color almost as brilliant as the day I brought them home. The micro-scrubbers get in every little crevice for an amazing clean! As an added bonus, they kill up to 99.9% of germs that your shoes might have picked up!
Here’s a comparison between the shoe I cleaned with a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe with Micro-Scrubbers and the shoe that hasn’t been touched yet:
The REAL test was my husband’s work shoes. Before I show a photo, I need to explain that he is a food truck owner, so his shoes take a LOT of abuse. These are actually a “retired” pair, so I’m not even sure why they are still in our house! They are destroyed, and the soles are almost completely black (and they were white when they were new!)
I really wasn’t expecting much…I mean, these shoes are done. However, it was a pleasant surprise that I was able to get them to about 90% of where they used to be color-wise. Those micro-scrubbers are incredible! I only used two wipes for each shoe, as they are very saturated with cleaner and they are incredibly durable.
And so, without further ado, here is a before and after comparison of my husband’s work shoes:
To quickly whiten shoe soles, gently wipe the soles using a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe with Micro-Scrubbers. A back and forth or circular motion should work fine. Depending on how dirty the soles are, you might need to apply a little pressure — my own shoes didn’t require much effort, but my husband’s took a little elbow grease.
**Tip: Always spot test in an inconspicuous area before cleaning.
If you haven’t tried Clorox Disinfecting Wipes with Micro-Scrubbers, these are one of the most versatile cleaning products out there! I use them on a daily basis, and now I have one more thing to add to my list: whiten shoe soles!
Clorox Disinfecting Wipes with Micro-Scrubbers are available at Target, and right now you can save 10% with the Cartwheel app, so it’s the perfect opportunity to try them out!
