What it’s Like to Adopt a Chippies Robot Dog

Kids Activities

Inside: Want to offer you kids the fun of owning a pet, without all the work for mom and dad? Why a Chippies robot dog is the perfect way to go! Sponsored by WowWee.

Last year, CHiP “the lovable robot dog” took the toy world by storm. My girls saw the commercials and of course wanted a robot dog of their own! However, the price tag and the high demand meant that it was a bit tricky to find.

This year the makers of CHiP introduced a new line of robotic dogs that are accessible to everyone! Chippies have all the spunk of CHiP, but at an affordable price point. Can you imagine how excited the girls were when WowWee offered to send us a Chippies toy to review?!

Meet the Chippies

There are four different types of Chippies, each with their unique name and style:

  • Chipper – light blue body with cute pointy ears
  • Chippo – black body with yellow ears and a dog bone on his collar
  • Chippette – bright pink body with purple ears and tail
  • Chipella – white body with light pink ears and a heart on her collar

We got Chippo, the fiesty black and yellow pup, but the girls promptly renamed him “Dogbot” and the name stuck!

What Can the Chippies Do?

Using a remote control, your child can tell it’s new pet robot dog to:

  • Free roam to explore on their own
  • Dance and sing
  • Go on Guard (they bark at anyone who crosses their path)
  • Make pee and fart noises (obviously this is one of the kids’ favorite tricks!)
  • And more!

The Chippies dogs also feature a touch sensor so you can interact with them for more realistic fun!

Pat your Chippies dog once on the nose and it will lick, sniff, or bark. Pat twice and it will sneeze or kiss your hand, just like a real pup (but without the slobber!) However, if you cover your Chippies’ nose for more than 2 seconds, it will whimper, reminding you that it can’t see with your hand there.

Why we Love Chippies

My youngest daughter is still a little nervous around dogs, so this has been a great way for her to enjoy the dog experience, without the worry.

Dogbot is a constant source of entertainment – the girls have played with him every single day since he arrived.

On a parent’s side, I will say that the volume level is perfect. Our Chippies toy is loud enough that the girls can hear him, but not so loud as to be annoying for the rest of us. The girls’ giggles are actually louder than the dog.
