Crafting with Kids: DIY “Love” Photo Gift
My mom celebrated her birthday last week and it is always a bit of a challenge to think of a gift idea for her– what do you buy a person who can already get themselves anything they need?
I recently saw this post from The Pinterested Parent of a series of photos spelling the word “love.” It reminded me of a very similar school project Lilu had done a couple years ago that is now in my mother-in-law’s bedroom. I am a huge fan of photo art, so I was inspired to create a unique photo gift for “Grammy.”
I simplified the photo-taking process slightly by only using one shot of each girl– I’m sure all of you with a baby understand how hard it is to get a usable picture of a squirmy little one!
My husband and I (yes, he actually helped with this project) perused the local craft store to find the “perfect frame,” and the idea really took shape from there. We found a collage frame (actually meant to hold 3 4×6 photos) and it was the hubby’s idea to paint a heart to put in the middle spot.
I used metallic gold artist’s acrylic paint and a sponge roller to spread the paint evenly and add a light texture.
I used double-sided tape to hold everything in place inside the frame. The entire project cost maybe $20, since photo frames were 50% off and I also had a 40% off coupon for a non-sale item. I loved how the photo gift project turned out and was actually a little sad to give this away– I might have to make one of my own!

I bet your mom loved it! I have ton of pictures of my grandkids and you can never have too many!
I agree– my house is full of photos! My mom suggested switching out old ones in the frames, but I just keep adding more 🙂
