More Money Saving Tips: My Couponing Experiment Follow-up

In April, my husband and I did a month-long “couponing experiment” in which we tracked our weekly bill. We then shared our money saving tips learned through clipping coupons and shopping the weekly sales ads. (See the conclusion here!)

This trick saved us 10% more on groceries -- after coupons!

Recently, I was introduced to a rebate app called Ibotta, which promised to put even more money back in our bank account. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical at first–coupons are usually targeted towards packaged foods, and we primarily purchase proteins and veggies.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the items I could actually save on: tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, bananas, lettuce, yogurt, bacon, and eggs– any brand! They even had rebates available for very a specific type of quinoa pasta we love, as well as the cashews that hubby snacks on every day. I haven’t used them yet, but Ibotta also has rebates on lots of household items and even some restaurants and retail stores.

Another perk of Ibotta is that there are bonuses you can work towards (example: an extra $2 back for hitting a monthly savings goal). Also, you get up to $2 for anyone you refer– which is easy because it’s an app that I use every week and I’m actually excited to share with friends and family.

Since our couponing experiment officially ended, I’ve continued to improve upon my grocery savings strategy and am now routinely cutting $30 or more from our weekly bill. With Ibotta, I’m probably saving another $5-10 per week on top of that, plus any bonuses or referrals. Definitely worth checking out!
