Homemade Yogurt Melts Recipe

When my girls were little, they LOVED yogurt melts. If only I knew back then how easy they are to make at home, I could have saved a lot of money!! (iykyk…those store-bought baby snacks are expensive!!)

Yogurt melts can be a healthy snack for kids because they start with nutrient-rich yogurt, which provides protein and calcium to support growing bodies and strong bones. When made at home, you can choose plain or naturally sweetened yogurt and add real fruit for flavor, allowing you to control the ingredients and avoid the added sugars, artificial flavors, and preservatives found in some packaged snacks. Their small, bite-sized shape also makes them a fun, convenient snack for little ones, while the cool, creamy texture is especially refreshing on warm days.

Light, airy, a gentle crunch, and then it melts away into flavor. These Homemade Yogurt Melts are a treat the whole family can enjoy, and are perfect for toddlers too! Pack them as a healthy snack, or as a fun dessert!

TIP: Use your homemade yogurt melts to make “Baby Trail Mix” which is a simple, fun snack for kids!

Instructions

To Prep: Preheat the oven to 215 degrees Fahrenheit and line a 9×13 baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place a sheet of parchment paper over the top of the foil.

  1. Make the Base – Add the yogurt, cornstarch, and sugar to a small mixing bowl, mixing until fully combined.
  2. Make the Meringue – Add the egg whites and cream of tartar to a separate medium mixing bowl. Using an electric hand mixer to beat the egg mixture until it thickens and holds its shape.
  3. Combine – Gently fold the yogurt mixture into the egg whites using a silicone spatula. Work carefully so the mixture retains its light and fluffy texture.
  4. Cook – Using a spoon or piping bag, make small dollops of the yogurt mixture on the prepared pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until lightly golden brown on the bottom, then remove from oven and allow to cool on the pan for 15 minutes before eating or storing.

Prep Tips:

  • Yield: This recipe makes about 150 bite-sized pieces.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. I do not recommend storing them in the fridge or freezer as they may get sticky.
  • Yogurt: Any flavor or brand of yogurt can be used, even non-dairy yogurt. If applicable, remove any large chunks of fruit so the melts can cook through and dry out all the way.
  • Piping: I used a Wilton tip #5, but any up to a #10 will work as well. This mixture doesn’t hold shape, so really any small frosting tip should do. You could even use a zip-top bag and cut a small hole in one of the corners to make your own piping bag.
