Bunny Bait {No Bake Easter Chex Mix}
Sweet, salty, and crunchy, “Bunny Bait” is an irresistible Easter snack mix featuring white chocolate-coated cereal, mini pretzels, and colorful candy.

Easter Bunny Bait Snack Mix
One of my favorite things about Easter are all the fun Easter desserts and treats that we can make with the kids! I love being together as a family to celebrate.
This “bunny bait” is my favorite new Easter treat! We’ve made similar puppy chow style snack mixes for other holidays, like our pumpkin spice puppy chow, Reindeer Chow for Christmas, and Leprechaun Bait for St. Patrick’s Day. These candy coated snack mixes are easy and so delicious!
For our spring snack mix, we added mini pretzels to our cereal base. Then we coated these salty snacks in creamy white chocolate and powdered sugar, then combined them with Easter M&Ms for a little bit of chocolate flavor. It’s the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and chocolate-y!
One of the great things about this recipe is that you can use ingredients you have on hand. For example, you can use just Chex cereal, or you can use other types of cereal that you might have handy, such as Cheerios, Crispix, etc. This is reflected in the photos here, which show different variations using different ingredients, with the same sweet and salty flavor!

Prep Tips
- Drying Time – Be sure to make sure that your snack mix is completely dry before storing. If it is still damp at all, it can cause condensation or make the cereal turn soggy.
- Tools – We love these silicone baking mats because you can wash and re-use them over and over again. Because they’re non-stick, you don’t need any non-stick spray – the snack mix just slides right off the mats! However, you can also use parchment paper.
- Melting Chocolate – Instead of microwaving, you can also melt the white chocolate in a double boiler over medium heat OR by making your own double-boiler with a saucepan of water and a metal bowl on top.
- Chocolate Chips vs. Melting Wafers – If you’re using white chocolate chips, you may need to add a Tablespoon of shortening or coconut oil while you’re melting it. This will allow it to melt smoothly. If you’re using white chocolate melting wafers, you can skip the shortening.
- Variations – For the pretzels, you can use any type of mini pretzel: squares, twists, etc. The cereal can also be any combination that you like; I find that Chex and Honey Nut cheerios both work very well. Feel free to use your own Easter candy in this recipe! Mini marshmallows, candy eggs, Reese’s Pieces, etc. So many ways to mix it up!
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Store This Snack Mix?
The easiest and best way to keep your Easter snack mix fresh is to store it at room temperature in an airtight container. You can also use a ziplock bag. It should last for about a week.
Can You Freeze Chex Mix?
Sure! This candy coated chex mix will hold in freezer for up to 3-6 months in a freezer safe food storage container or bag. When you’re ready to enjoy it, pull the bag out of the freezer and allow the puppy chow to thaw slowly to room temperature. Do not use the microwave or oven to reheat, as this could melt the candy coating.
