Wood Pallet Valentine’s Day Coaster Craft

These adorable mini wood pallet coasters are more than just a cute craft โ€“ they’re functional keepsakes that kids can make and gift for Valentine’s Day!

You can find these mini wood pallets at craft stores or on Amazon (I linked to them in the supply list). We made a heart cutout from contact paper and then covered the coasters in dabs of colorful red and pink paint. When you peel away the heart paper, there is a perfect heart left in the middle of the coaster with a vibrant background. Easy and beautiful!

This is a craft that kids of all ages can make. Older kids can probably do most or all of it themselves. Younger kids may need help with the heart cutout, but will have a blast painting.

This would even be a fun craft to make for “Galentine’s Day”…wine and painting party anyone?!

Instructions

  1. Paint the surface of each coaster white and allow to dry completely.
  2. Trace and cut a heart shape onto clear contact paper. Peel away the backing of the contact paper and place the heart shape in the center of the coaster. Press down so the edges of the heart are flat and it is secure on top of the coaster.
  3. Use a round foam paint robber to make dots of paint around the edges of the coaster. You want to overlap the edges of the contact paper heart too. Allow to dry completely.
  4. When the paint is dry, peel away the contact paper heart. Cut out a smaller heart from red glitter cardstock and glue in the center of your coaster.

Prep Tips

  • Painting – If you don’t have contact paper, you can use construction paper or cardstock to make your heart cutout and tape it on the coaster while you paint the dots on top. You’ll want to be careful with this method because the paper is more likely to shift. If you don’t have a foam dabber, you can use thumbprints, cotton balls, etc. to make the circles of paint.
  • Personalize – This craft can easily be personalized to make it a Valentine keepsake gift that the receiver is sure to treasure! Use a detail paintbrush or a metallic paint pen to add a loved one’s name or initials for a heartfelt gift that lasts beyond February.
