Doritos Chicken Tenders
These Doritos Chicken Strips are a crispy and cheesy twist on chicken tenders! Both kids and grown-ups alike will love them!
Doritos Crusted Chicken Strips
If you asked my kids what their favorite food is, hands-down they would say chicken tenders. Ask them their favorite kind of chips and they’ll probably tell you “Doritos!!” So why not put the two together and make one totally awesome dish?!
These Doritos crusted chicken tenders are crispy, cheesy, and flavorful. Plus, they’re super easy to make, with only 4 total ingredients! Instead of the usual breadcrumbs, we used crushed chips for the coating. And you can switch up the flavor by using your favorite kind of Doritos.
While we definitely don’t eat like this all the time, sometimes it’s fun to just make an over-the-top comfort food that you’d normally get at a county fair or food truck. The whole family will have a blast and love these unique and tasty homemade chicken strips!

Ingredients
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1 Bag Nacho Cheese Doritos
- 1lb Chicken Breasts or Chicken Tenderloins
Note: This recipe will probably use a little bit less than a typical bag of Doritos (not the fun-size bag). That way you can snack while cooking!

Instructions
To Prep: Preheat the oven to 400ยฐF and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place an oven-safe wire rack on top of your prepared pan. Mist with non-stick cooking spray.
- Add Doritos chips to a food processor and chop until the tortilla chips have a consistency similar to bread crumbs. Dump the crumbs into a small bowl.
- In a separate shallow bowl, whisk together egg and milk.
- Dip each chicken tender first into the bowl of egg mixture, so that the whole strip is submerged. Allow excess egg wash to drip back into the bowl, then roll the strip in the crushed Doritos until fully coated.
- Place the coated chicken strips on the rack that’s on top of your prepared pan. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until an inserted meat thermometer reads 165ยฐF.
Prep Tips
- If starting from full chicken breasts, you’ll want to trim and cut into 1 inch strips.
- Try using different flavors of Doritos, such as Cool Ranch or Flamin’ Hot Doritos to switch up the taste of your dish.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing.
- For bolder flavor, you may want to add a bit of extra seasoning: cayenne pepper (with Nacho cheese flavor), ranch seasoning (with Cool Ranch Chips), etc. The flavor of the chips is toned down slightly during baking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Did the Chip Crumbs Not Stick to My Chicken Tenders?
If you’re having trouble getting the crumbs to stick, there are a couple things that might help. First, make sure that your chip crumbs are processed enough. Big chunks won’t stick as well. Next, you’ll want to make sure that you allowed enough of the egg wash to drip back in the pan. If it’s still dripping when you coat in the crumbs, chances are it will keep dripping and take some of the crumbs with you.
How Many Servings Does This Recipe Make?
When prepared with our ingredient amounts and directions listed above, this recipe makes approximately 15 tenders, or about 4-5 servings.
If you want to double the recipe to feed a crowd, I would recommend working in batches and making a fresh bowl of chip crumbs for each batch. That way the crumbs don’t get soggy from the egg batter.
