Halloween Dirt Cups are a cute kids treat with spooky touches like gummy worms and candy gravestones. They’re super easy to make!
Halloween Dirt Cups
Dirt cups are a classic Halloween dessert! I always looooved dirt cake as a kid and remember begging my mom to make it.
These Halloween dirt cups are easy to assemble with our shortcut recipe. You don’t need any special equipment…no food processor, no mixer, no cooking and no baking!
If you’ve got a Halloween party coming up and need a quick and easy treat to bring along, these are always a crowd-pleaser! One of my favorite easy Halloween desserts!
Related: We made a modified version of this recipe for our Halloween bento lunch a few years ago. Instead of individual pudding cups, you put the dirt pudding right into one of the bento openings!

- Place the cookie halves with writing into each pudding cup so that they stick up like a gravestone.

Prep Tips
- Feel free to customize this recipe by using Halloween themed sprinkles or your favorite Halloween candy on top. You could also use different types of cookies to make the tombstones, like we did with Milano cookies for our Graveyard Brownie Cake.
- We used chocolate pudding because it looks like dirt/earth. However, you can always modify and use vanilla pudding for the base, or even chocolate mousse for an extra decadent dessert.
- You can also make these dirt pudding cups from scratch by using your favorite recipe for chocolate pudding, or instant pudding mix. This allows you to make layers with crushed Oreos and pudding for a fun twist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can You Make These Oreo Dirt Cups Ahead of Time?
You could prepare and assemble your dirt dessert cups a few hours ahead of time, or perhaps even overnight. I wouldn’t recommend making them more than a day ahead because they need to be refrigerated and the tombstone cookies could start to get mushy in the fridge.
The good news is that this recipe is so easy you don’t really need a lot of extra time to prep or plan ahead! This is the main reason we used packaged pudding cups as the base of our dish.
Can You Make These Gluten Free?
According to their website, Snack Pack puddings are gluten-free. Jello pudding isn’t labeled gluten free, but it is not made with any ingredients containing gluten. Always read labels to be sure!
If you swap out regular Oreos for the gluten-free version, you should be all set!
