Halloween Marshmallows

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year! I love the costumes, watching as the neighbors put up Halloween decorations, and I especially love all the festive foods!

These Halloween Marshmallow Pops are one of the cutest treats and they’re so easy to make! They look like cake pops, but are much simpler to create because you don’t have to bake a cake or mold them, since you’re starting with marshmallows.

This is a great all-age recipe! Older kids can probably handle a lot of this themselves, while younger kids will love to decorate with assistance.

We’ve provided 5 different designs to inspire your creativity: ghost, mummy, Frankenstein, pumpkin, and Dracula.

  • Jumbo Marshmallows
  • White Chocolate Melting Wafers
  • Gel Food Coloring (Purple, Green, Orange, Black)
  • Lollipop Sticks or Cake Pop Sticks
  • Cookie Sheet lined with Parchment Paper
  • Microwave Safe Bowls

Instructions

To Prep:

If using straws, cut each in half so they are about 4 inches in length. You can also use candy sticks or lollipop sticks.

Push your straw or candy stick into one of the flat sides of a jumbo marshmallow. Prepare as many marshmallows as you plan to dip, that way you’re ready to go once the chocolate is melted.

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper or a silicone mat.

There are two different ways to coat your marshmallow pops:

  • White chocolate mixed with food coloring
  • Colorful candy melts

For each color/style of marshmallow pop, you’ll need one small microwave safe bowl. Add 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips (or candy melts) to each bowl. Microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring between each heating, until melted and smooth. If using food coloring, stir a few drops of each color into its own bowl of melted white chocolate.

Dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate and rotate so each marshmallow is completely coated. This is the base coat. Gently tap the lollipop stick on the side of the bowl to allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Set the marshmallow pops on your lined baking sheet to dry before you decorate the faces.

Prep Tips

  • Feel free to take our designs and make them your own! You can add festive sprinkles, candy eyeballs, or other fun touches.
  • Instead of using white chocolate + food coloring, you can use colorful candy melts to coat your marshmallows. They’ll both work the same, but candy melts eliminate the step of mixing food coloring. Simply melt the candy melts according to package directions and decorate as described in the recipe steps above.
  • As noted in the recipe above, you can also use thick paper straws as your sticks. Simply cut each straw in half so they’re not too long (and you can use one straw to make two lollipops).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Use White Chocolate Chips?

Yes, you can use white chocolate chips for the coating. I like to use the melting wafers because they are already formulated to melt smoothly. If using regular white chocolate chips, stir in a Tablespoon shortening for each cup of white chocolate chips used. This will help the chocolate melt better and look smoother after it dries.

Do Marshmallow Pops Need to be Refrigerated?

Nope! I don’t recommend refrigerating marshmallow pops because it will dry out the marshmallows and potentially cause condensation on the outside of the chocolate coating. Keep your decorated marshmallows in an airtight container at room temperature instead.
