Our Favorite Under the Sea Snack Ideas
I don’t know what it is about school that works up an appetite, but when our girls get home every day the first thing they ask for is a snack!
Since family dinner is usually just a couple hours later, we usually do a light snack after school. Whenever I have time, I look for ways to make snacking fun because it’s easier to sneak in healthy ingredients that way. Shhh…don’t tell my kids my secret!
This week my husband and I whipped up these under the sea snack ideas using a few simple ingredients, including both fresh fruits and my new favorite dried fruit snack, RaiselsĀ®.
My husband thought up turtle shaped snacks, which I have to admit were my favorite! So stinkin’ cute!! I made the jellyfish snacks, which I think are pretty cute too.
The best part about these sea animal themed snacks is that you only need a few easily accessible ingredients and a few minutes of time to make them. No cooking required!
Under the Sea Party Snacks Ingredients

How to Make Under the Sea Snacks for Kids
Here is a quick breakdown of how we made our under the sea snacks:
Sea Turtle Shaped Snacks
- Make an almond butter cracker sandwich to form the turtle’s body.
- Spread the top cracker with almond butter, and place Raisels in rows to resemble the scales on a turtle shell.
- Arrange mandarin orange slices to form the turtle’s flippers.
- Place half a strawberry at the top to make the turtle’s head.
Jellyfish Shaped Snacks
- Place a pretzel twist on plate and coat the top of the pretzel with almond butter.
- Arrange blueberries along the top and sides of the pretzel twist, using the almond butter like glue to hold the blueberries in place.
- Place half a strawberry in the middle of the jellyfish body.
- Use Raisels to make the jellyfish tentacles on the plate.
These are just a couple of the ideas we had to make under the sea snacks for preschoolers or elementary aged kids. You could easily modify these examples just a tad to make an octopus or a fish too!
What are Raisels?
Raisels are fun flavored golden raisins. There are quite a few varieties, but these are the six that we’ve tried:
- Watermelon Shock Sours
- Chili Limon Pineapple (a little sweet, a little sour, a little spicy)
- Lemon Blast Sours
- Orange Burst Sours
- Tropical Fruit Flavored (my fav!!)
- Fruit Splash Sours
OK…I know what you’re thinking. Raisins don’t usually inspire excitement.
But y’all…Raisels areĀ legit. Actually, they are amazingly delicious! Seriously!!
The first time I tried Raisels I raved to my husband, “Oh my gosh these are amazing!! You’veĀ got to try them!!” And then I proceeded to finish the entire box myself (oops!) Good thing they come in 6-packs!
My favorite variety is Tropical Fruit Flavored – they taste like candy, but there is ZERO added sugar! I have no idea how they do it!!
Because they’re so tasty (I’m not exaggerating when I say they taste like candy), Raisels make an awesome alternative to fruit snacks! Many commercial fruit snacks contain lots of added sugar, dyes, and other stuff. Raisels are real fruit, with NO artificial stuff! They’re also vegan friendly and gluten free.
Trust me, once your kids try Raisels, they will ask for them again by name! And you’ll feel so much better about serving Raisels than most other fruit snacks because raisins actually provide nutritional value.
I especially love that Raisels are shelf stable, so I can always keep them on hand for easy lunch packing on busy mornings!
Where to Buy: Raisels are available online at www.raisels.com and at Texas H-E-B stores.
Are Raisins Healthy?
You better believe it! Dried fruits like raisins count towards the daily recommendation of two servings of fruit a day.
Here are just a few of the many health benefits of raisins:
- Good source of antioxidants, which flush out toxins and damaging free radicals
- High in fiber (providing up to 24% of your recommended daily intake)
- Rich in phytochemicals, which fight cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth and teeth
- Packed with vitamins and minerals
