M&M cookies are one of my favorite cookies ever…I just can’t resist when I see them at a bakery! That’s why I love these cookie bars – they taste just like my favorite M&M cookies, but better because they’re deep-dish and soft baked…and packed with candy!
I’ve included a 1-minute recipe video in this blog post to show you exactly how they’re made…and get you drooling! Find it in the instructions or in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Instructions
To Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9×11-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Sift together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate large bowl, add the slightly cooled browned butter, brown sugar and white sugar and whisk together until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and fold together with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon. The cookie dough should be pretty thick.
- Fold the chocolate chips and mini M&M’s into the dough until evenly distributed. Scoop the cookie dough into the prepared pan, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 24 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and just starts to crackle. As soon as you remove the pan from the oven, carefully press extra M&Ms into the top of the cookie bars. Allow the cookie bars to cool for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.
Prep Tips
- Candy – This is an easy recipe to customize with your favorite candy, or what you might have on hand in your pantry. You can swap out the M&Ms with Peanut Butter M&Ms or Reese’s Pieces. You can also substitute another flavor for the chocolate chips, such as white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, milk chocolate chips, etc. Have fun with it! You can also use different colors for different holidays, such as red and green M&Ms for Christmas.
- Cooking Time – I like my cookies and cookie bars to be soft-baked, but if you prefer a more cake-like texture you can increase the cooking time for a couple minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them as they bake so the bars don’t cook too much.
- Yield – The exact number of bars will depend on how you cut them. We got 24 bars.
- Storage – Keep your cookie bars in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months by wrapping individual bars in plastic wrap and placing them inside a freezer bag.
