Orange Margarita Truffles
You’ve never had a truffle like this! These boozy orange margarita truffles are a delicious combination of creamy white chocolate, bold orange flavor, and tequila.
Orange Margarita Truffles
These orange margarita truffles combine two of my favorite things: truffles and margaritas! It sounds a bit wild, but they are soooo good!
Imagine creamy white chocolate blended with real orange juice and zest…and a splash of tequila! These aren’t your usual truffles that’s for sure! But they are perfect for gifting or for a fresh and fruity summer treat (for the grown-ups!)
What is a Truffle Dessert?
In the dessert world, a truffle is a bite-sized candy treat that is made when chocolate is melted into hot cream to create a ganache. The ganache is then chilled and formed into balls.
It’s an easy dessert that is always a crowd-pleasure! Perfect for sharing or gifting due to the individual portions.
Our truffles are a spin on this classic confection, using white chocolate instead of the usual dark chocolate. We also added real orange juice and tequila to make them bold and boozy!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate Instead?
Chocolate and orange is a classic flavor combination, so it stands to reason that swapping out regular chocolate for the white chocolate in this recipe would be quite tasty too. I haven’t personally tried it yet, but if you do, let me know how it goes!

How Long Do Homemade Truffles Last?
You don’t have to refrigerate homemade truffles. They can be stored in a sealed container at room temperature for up to a week.
However, many people enjoy truffles when they are chilled, so you CAN refrigerate if you prefer. Refrigerating also extends their shelf life; when kept in the fridge, your homemade truffles can last for a month or two.
Does the Tequila Cook Out of the Truffles?
No, the tequila is added after heating the chocolate, so it does not cook out. This recipe is intended for readers over 21 because it does contain alcohol, even if it is a relatively small amount spread out through the dessert. You could make this kid-friendly by swapping the tequila with more orange juice.

Made this recipe according to the directions but the chocolate (after refrigeration), is too loose to scoop. Any recommendations to tighten this before I give up?
I just had the same exact problem. I think the tequila prevents the ganache from setting properly. That or it needs to be put in a shallow pan to spread out a little more and maybe then it would set.
Also notice that you asked this question back in August and as of now, there’s been no response from the author of the recipe.
Hi there – if you saw how many comments I get, you’d understand why they sometimes slip through the cracks 😉 The truffle mixture is only supposed to be “soft set” before scooping and rolling into balls. It is normal for it to be a little bit messy. The amount of tequila is small, so that wouldn’t affect the ability to set up. The truffles should set more once they are formed into balls and refrigerated again. I also keep any homemade truffles that I make in the fridge. Keep in mind that store-bought candy has added stabilizers and stuff like that, which makes them hold their shape at room temperature. Our homemade recipes do not. Hope this helps!
Wish I had read the comments before making this – I will now be using it to glaze an orange pound cake because there is no way this will hold shape – 24 hours in the fridge and it is still a loose ganache (delicious) glaze.
