Create a Vintage Wagon Garden Planter in 30 Minutes

When my dad moved to a new house he asked if I wanted our childhood wagon that he’d kept in his garage for years. I’m definitely a sentimental person, so I agreed right away!
Our little red wooden wagon was a little worse for wear, but I couldn’t bear to part with it. Instead, I decided to upcycle this classic kids wagon into an easy, yet beautiful container gardening project.

Directions
If you have a wooden wagon like ours that has slatted sides, then you’ll want to line the inside with plastic sheeting/tarp or coconut fiber plant liner like we did. This prevents dirt from spilling through the sides of the wagon. (If you have a metal wagon with solid sides you can skip this step).
Use Ecoscraps Gardening Soil to create a base layer in your planter. The exact amount of soil needed will depend on the size of your wagon and the size of your plants. We made this layer about three inches deep, or about 1/4 of our wagon capacity.
Note: We chose Ecoscraps soils for our garden planter because they’re designed to be both good for plants and the planet! Remove your plants from their temporary plastic pots and arrange on top of your base layer of soil. Fill in the space around your plants with Ecoscraps potting soil. Gently press soil down using your hands or a small spade to secure the plants, but don’t pack the soil so tightly that the plants’ roots will struggle to grow.
The nifty part about a wagon garden planter is that it’s mobile! We wheel ours over to the hose for easier watering — it can also be moved to a covered area on stormy days.
