I love Cornish Hens — if they’re on the menu, there’s a high probability that I’m going to order them! So when I heard that Tyson® Cornish Hens are now available at Walmart, we headed right over to grab some. Restaurant-quality food at Walmart prices? Sounds like a win-win to me! Plus, Tyson Cornish Hens are all-natural (no artificial flavors or preservatives) — just one more reason to add this wholesome protein to your dinner rotation.
My husband suggested that we grill them for maximum flavor, a preparation I’d never tried before. He whipped up a sweet and slightly spicy Orange Chili Glaze using Kikkoman® Orange Sauce and tossed them on the grill (it really was almost that easy!) WOW! The result was incredible: juicy, fall-off-the-bone meat with smoky and sweet flavors.

Here’s what you need to make Sweet Orange Chili Glazed Cornish Hens:
- 1 package Tyson Cornish Hens (2 hens per package)
- 1 cup Kikkoman Orange Sauce
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 TB rice vinegar
- 1 TB chili paste
- 2 TB vegetable oil
- Salt & Pepper
Build a Fire: On a charcoal grill (what we used), build a fire as you normally would. Once it has been well established, move the majority of the burning coals to one side, which will be the “hot” side. Leave a few coals on the other half of the grill; these will create less heat and be the “cool” side.
Here’s a good look from above at the difference between the “hot” and “cool” sides of the grill (the Cornish hens are over the cool side at this point for their final cooking):
Prep the Tyson Cornish Hens: Using kitchen shears, cut each bird in half and remove wings:
Cover all the meat (including wings) in vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Massage the oil and seasoning into the meat to make sure it is evenly coated.
Create the Glaze: In a medium mixing bowl, add Kikkoman Orange Sauce, Orange Juice, Vinegar, and Chili Paste. Whisk together until well combined.
It’s Grill Time! Place the Tyson Cornish Hens on the “hot” side of the grill and flip until each side of the Cornish Hens have the desired amount of charring. Once you’ve got some beautiful grill marks on your birds, move them to the “cool” side, baste heavily with the Sweet Chili Glaze, and cover. Cook for 20 minutes, basting occasionally.
Remove from the grill and they’re ready to eat! We enjoyed our Tyson Cornish Hens with rice and veggies (and of course some of the extra Sweet Orange Chili sauce we made!)
You can find Tyson Cornish Hens in the poultry section at Walmart, usually in the reach-in freezer in the middle of the aisle:
Kikkoman Orange Sauce is located in the Asian/International aisle; it’s easy to spot because there are lots of other flavorful Kikkoman Sauce options in colorful bottles:
