Flower Pot Acorn Craft
Grab some paint and wiggle eyes and transform a simple dollar store flower pot into a cute little acorn! This fun fall craft for kids is great for all ages!
Flower Pot Acorn Craft for Kids
This adorable acorn craft is a little something different than the usual pumpkin crafts that you often see for fall. I mean, just look at that sweet smile and goofy google eyes – does it get any cuter than that?!
Even better, this craft can be made using simple dollar store supplies and easily customized for kids of different ages. They’ll have so much fun creating their own funny faces!
Perfect to use as decor for fall, this little acorn can hold all sorts of goodies too! Fill it up and give it as a gift, or have yourself a seasonal little candy jar!
Supply List
For your convenience in recreating this craft, Iโve added shop-able ingredient and supply links where possible. Read our disclosure policyย here.ย
- Terra Cotta Flower Pot – 3.5 inches in diameter at top
- Terracotta Flower Pot Saucer – 3 inch size
- Google Eyes
- Mini Wood Log Sticks (or small twigs)
- Natural Jute Twine
- Acrylic Craft Paint: Light Brown, Dark Brown, Pink
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (The Cricut glue gun is my favorite! No dripping!)
- Paintbrushes
- Scissors
- Pencil with new Eraser
- Black Permanent Marker
Instructions
- Remove any tags from the flower pots and apply a base coat of light brown acrylic craft paint. Paint a base coat of DARK brown paint on the rim of the flower pot and covering the entire saucer. Allow to dry, and add a second coat of base coat to the pot and saucer if needed.
- Using a detail paintbrush, paint an โXโ pattern around the rim of the clay pot with light brown acrylic craft paint. Place the saucer on top of the flowerpot like a lid and continue the cross-hatching pattern.
- Glue a wooden stem to the top of the saucer/lid and tie a bow around it with natural jute twine.
- Make a face on the acorn by gluing two wiggle eyes to the front of the flower pot. You can make cheeks by dipping a round pencil eraser in pink paint and dotting on either side of the face.ย Use a black permanent marker or black paint to draw the mouth.
Prep Tips
- We used a bundle of wooden stems we found at the dollar store, but you could alternatively use a small tree branch or stick from the yard. If using a twig, you may need to cut or sand the end so it can lay flat against the top of the lid.
- If you leave the lid of the pot unattached (do not glue together) you can fill the inside of the pot with yummy fall candy and/or a sweet message. This would make a fun teacher gift idea or a classroom craft that kids can take home.
- Instead of a paintbrush, you could instead create the pattern on top of the lid with a light brown or metallic gold paint pen.
- If making with younger kids, you can use plastic flower pots of the same size instead of clay flower pots or terra cotta. You could also use regular craft glue instead of hot glue.
