How to Make the Ultimate Planner
This ultimate planner tutorial is part of a shop that has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. However, ideas and opinions are 100% mine. #EraseStress #CollectiveBias
One of my job titles in our family is “The Organizer,” and until now, my organization strategy until now has generally been to “just wing it.” However our family of four has gotten very BUSY these days, especially now that it’s time to go back to school! With appointments, activities, school assignments, bills and two businesses to keep track of, I finally decided I needed to get serious about our schedule and create the ultimate planner that was up for the task!
To get inspired, I headed over to Target, which is always full of fabulous finds. Almost immediately, I spotted the perfect products to put together my ultimate planner. Not only will this allow me to keep everything straight, it would also be an amazing gift for just about anyone who loves (or needs) to get organized. (Hint: teacher gift!)
Here’s how I made my ultimate planner:
First, I started with a basic (but of course chic since it was from Target!) monthly planner that would be just the right size to slip in my purse, but large enough give me the writing space I need.
Then I found a pencil case that was the exact same size, with an elastic band that allowed me to slip it over my calendar. You could also easily make one of your own by fastening a piece of elastic to a pencil case or any small bag of your choosing. Take a look:
So what do I keep in my pencil case? I have a pocket notebook which I use for my MANY to-do lists. I also found these awesome FriXion Erasable Pens which I use to color-code my calendar: red for bills, blue for appointments/activities, and black for work projects. That way I know at a glance what I have to do each day.
These are not the erasable pens of your youth (which didn’t really erase well at all!) FriXion Erasable Pens write smoothly (almost like a gel pen) and erase COMPLETELY. They absolutely made a believer out of me! Check out my demo here.
I don’t like writing in pencil, but one of my pet peeves is a messy calendar with scribbled out mistakes or changed dates. Now I can write in pen AND erase if I need to fix a calendar entry. I’m in love! (Bonus- they don’t stain clothes like regular ballpoint pens!)
If you’re making this planner as a gift, be sure to grab your free printable gift tag!
Right now when you purchase FriXion Eraseable Pens, Pilot Pen will make a donation to STOMP Out Bullying, the leading national bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization. Pilot has pledged a minimum of $125,000 through 2015!
Be sure to head on over to your local Target (let the giant pencils overhead lead the way!) and pick up a pack (or two) of FriXion pens– not only are they perfect for your new ultimate planner, but you’ll be helping to erase bullying in our schools! From 8/23/15 – 8/29/15, the FriXion Clicker Erasable Pen 3-Packs (Assorted Colors and Black) are each 20% off at Target!
My new planner has been a huge help in getting myself and our family organized and you’ll always find it by my side (or in my purse!) What are your tips to “erase stress” when the school year starts? Share them below!

That is such an awesome idea, to attach that pencil case to the notebook. I would’ve never thought to do that, but it’s a great way to stay organized! #client
Thanks Carrie! I LOVED my Target finds 🙂
Be careful not to leave you planner in your hot car, the ink will disappear. There have been many comments on planner Facebook groups about these erasable pens. It can be shocking to have everything you wrote poof like that?
Thanks for the tip! I keep mine in my purse– I try not to leave anything in the car here in Texas during the Summer 🙂
Dear moegear, thank you so much for that tip as that never tossed my mind?
