Quilled Jack O’ Lantern

Halloween is one of my favorite occasions because I just love all the decorations!

They don’t even have to be fancy – some of our favorite decorations and Halloween crafts are homemade, like these Pumpkin Photo Pop-Up Cards we created last year.

These Quilled Jack O’ Lanterns are another super-cute Halloween paper craft. (Can you tell we love paper crafts?)

This quilled pumpkin is easy enough to make with kids, but pretty enough to use to decorate your home for the holiday. Just like all of our paper crafts, these easy quilled pumpkins only require basic supplies!

Keep reading for photo step-by-step instructions and supply list!

  • Quilling paper strips (orange, yellow and green)
  • Slotted quilling tool
  • Orange and black card stock
  • Craft glue
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

How to Make a Quilled Pumpkin

Prepare a bunch of 6 inches long orange colored quilling strips. Use the slotted quilling tool to make loose coil patterns with the prepared strips.

TIP: While you can absolutely roll the paper strips by hand, a slotted quilling tool makes this process a breeze!

How to make quilled strips with a quilling tool

Use a slotted quilling tool to make loose coil patterns with your orange quilling strips.

TIP: You can also make your own quilling strips using the methods here.

Cut a pumpkin out of orange craft paper or card stock. You’ll want to use thick paper so your pumpkin won’t be floppy.

Glue the orange colored paper coils onto your pumpkin. Start glueing coils around the border and work your way in until the pumpkin is filled with coils.

Cut out a pair of eyes, a nose and a mouth patterns from black colored craft paper or card stock. Attach to the top surface of your quilled pumpkin to make a Jack ‘O Lantern.

Use green and yellow colored quilling strips to make stem (triangular shape), leaves (basic lens shape) and vines (loose coils).

Glue the stem (triangular shape) on the top middle part of the quilled pumpkin. Glue the leaves on both sides of the stem.

Lastly, glue the loose coils on any one side of the stem. Allow glue to dry completely.
