Leprechaun Footprints – St. Patrick’s Day Prank

Looking for a fun idea to surprise the kids with on St. Patrick’s Day? How about leprechaun footprints?!

Except this silly leprechaun jumped up on the toilet seat and left his green footprints all over!

I saw this idea on a website called Differentiated Kindergarten, however, the blog post with directions no longer exists. So I decided to document and create a new post with full instructions showing what we did. I don’t know if it’s the exactly the same process as the original, but I think it turned out every bit as cute!

You only need basic craft supplies to pull off this St. Paddy’s Day prank and it’s sure to make the kids laugh when they see it!

Supplies

  • Washable Craft Paint or Finger-paint — be sure to use WASHABLE paint only!
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Paint Brush

4 step photo collage showing how to make "leprechaun footprints" on toilet.

Instructions

  1. Clean and disinfect toilet – both the seat and inside the bowl.
  2. Paint the side of your hand with washable green paint and press onto the toilet seat to form the foot. Use your finger dipped in paint to make the toes. *If you’re worried about staining, you can always place a small piece of plastic wrap over the seat where you’re going to paint.
  3. Repeat the above step with your other hand on the other side of the toilet seat.
  4. Add one drop of food coloring to the toilet bowl water. Stir if needed until the water turned green.

Tips

  • Paint – Use washable paint only for this craft! Finger-paint could also work because it is designed to wash off hands. I highly recommend spot-testing first to make sure that the paint you’re using does not stain your toilet seat and that it washes away easily. Do all this BEFOREHAND to make sure that everything does indeed wash away cleanly!
  • Food Coloring – Use ONE drop of food coloring to start. A little bit goes a LONG way and you don’t want to stain the toilet bowl.
