Santa’s Christmas Cookies

Calling all cookie elves! Whip up a batch of Santa’s favorite Christmas cookies with this easy recipe. These buttery bites are loaded with chocolate chips and festive M&Ms and are guaranteed to bring a smile to jolly old Saint Nick’s face when he comes down the chimney.

Growing up, we always left a plate of chocolate chip cookies out for Santa Claus. And he always seemed to enjoy them because there were never any leftovers!

However, I learned that Santa actually does have a favorite cookie recipe…chocolate chip cookies with red and green M&M candies! It’s a cookie classic…upgraded!! There is so much sweet flavor in every single bite. No wonder Santa loves them!

I love this recipe because it is made with simple ingredients that you might already have on hand. And kids can help every step of the way, from mixing the dough, to adding all the yummy extras.

So this Christmas Eve, be sure to make Santa the cookies he is craving! He deserves it after all that hard work delivering Christmas joy!

Prep Tips

  • Yield – This recipe will make 24-28 cookies, depending on the size of your cookie dough balls. A cookie scoop is helpful for making equal portions, but you could also use a Tablespoon to measure the dough. We used about 2TB of dough per cookie, about the size of a ping-pong ball.
  • Cooking Time – Oven temperatures may vary, and therefore cooking times may vary slightly too. I like my cookies soft and more on the less-done side, so I take mine out of the oven when they just start to turn golden brown. They’ll cook a little bit more as they cool on the cookie sheet.
  • Mix-ins – We used Christmas M&M candy, chocolate chips, and crushed pretzels to make our cookies. However, you can use your favorite add ins for this recipe, such as white chocolate chips, Reese’s Pieces, Christmas sprinkles, or crushed candy canes.
  • Storage – These homemade cookies can keep for 3-5 days at room temperature in an airtight container. You can also freeze the cookies in a large freezer bag for 2-3 months.
