Peppermint Christmas Tree Craft
Add a touch of whimsical charm to your holiday decor with these pretty Peppermint Christmas Trees! This is an easy Christmas craft to make with kids, using simple craft supplies.
Peppermint Christmas Trees
If you’re looking for a simple Christmas craft to make with the kids this year that is beautiful enough to display for years to come or to gift to friends and family, these peppermint trees are perfect!
We got the idea for this craft while watching the show “Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas” on Netflix. In one episode, they made Christmas trees with craft cones and peppermints, as well as peppermint garlands (which I might try to re-create next!) While they didn’t go into depth about how to make this craft, it was pretty simple to figure out how to make a similar design at home. This isn’t a sponsored post or anything, but I just wanted to give credit where credit is due!
As soon as we saw this craft, I knew it would be perfect for my little crafter! My daughter Annabelle is 9 years old and an avid crafter. She wants to open her own Etsy store one day. So we bought the supplies and we let our family know that she would be taking pre-orders on her first craft for sale. Within minutes, she had sold out on pre-orders! Time to get crafting!
With the promise of earning a nice chunk of change, AB got to work right away. Each tree took her about an hour to create, from start-to finish. This is a great craft for beginners or to make with the kids, if they are old enough to handle a glue gun. AB has been using her glue gun (she actually has a three of them!) for a couple years now, so I feel confident in letting her craft this one on her own.
The final result was super cute and adds a personal touch to our Christmas decor. The family loved their trees too!
Supply List
For your convenience in recreating this craft, I’ve added shop-able ingredient and supply links where possible. Read our disclosure policy here.
- Foam Craft Cones (We used 10-inch cones)
- Individually Wrapped Peppermint Candies
- 1-inch Pompoms (We used sparkly red and green pom poms)
- Glue Gun & Glue Sticks (I love my Cricut glue gun because it doesn’t drip!)
Instructions
- Add a dab of hot glue to one of the flat sides of a peppermint candy.
- Press the peppermint candy along the bottom of the cone and hold in place until glue sets.
- Repeat to form a ring of peppermints along the bottom of the foam cone. Continue gluing the peppermints up the sides of the cone, spacing them as close together as possible.
- Glue a sparkly pom-pom on top of the cone as the tree-topper.
Prep Tips
- Peppermints – We used red peppermints, but you could also use the green spearmint-flavored mints or a combination of the two colors. Make sure that they are individually wrapped and leave the wrapped on so that the trees will last longer and don’t get sticky. Each tree will need about one pound of peppermints, if you’re using the 10-inch cones like we did.
- Tree Toppers – You really can use any type of decoration to top your tree, from small ornaments, to stars, etc. We kept it simple with tinsel pom-poms in festive red and green colors.
- Glue – We used hot glue to attach our peppermints because it is quick and easy and the glue lasts for a long time. If making this project with kids, I recommend that adults handle the glue gun or you could use craft glue instead.
