Shamrock Wreath Craft made with puzzle pieces

Puzzle Piece Shamrock Wreath

If you don’t know by now, wreaths are one of my favorite things! I especially love simple, festive, homemade wreaths that can be made together with kids. As much as I adore Instagram-worthy home decor, that’s just not us!

Our home is full of life, color, love, and a little bit of mess. I can always have a clean, tidy, magazine-styled home when I’m an empty nester!

But for now, give me all things handmade, homemade, and kid-made!

This DIY Shamrock Wreath is made in a similar style to our Puzzle Piece Valentine Wreath. All you need are simple craft supplies and a 100-piece puzzle!

You should be able to find most, if not all, of the supplies we used from your local dollar store. I’ve also created a list of links to the supplies on Amazon.

Let’s get crafting!

Instructions

Print out the shamrock wreath pattern, trace onto cardboard, and cut out. A craft knife and self-healing mat makes this step a breeze!

Divide puzzle pieces into four groups of 25 pieces. Paint each group of pieces a different color green, so that you have 25 puzzle pieces in each color. If needed, apply a second coat of paint.

Use a hot glue gun to attach the puzzle pieces to your cardboard wreath frame. You can place the pieces in a pattern, or glue them at random like we did.

making a shamrock wreath from puzzle pieces

Attach a second layer of puzzle pieces on top of the first layer.

Cut a rectangle from white card stock that measures 1″ wide and 11″ long. This will be our banner.

Starting at the left side of your paper banner, color one-inch sections in rainbow order with markers. Use a black marker to write “LUCKY” or your own St. Patty’s Day message in the middle of the banner. Cut a triangle out of each end of the card stock banner.

Fold the ends of the banner into a “Z” pattern and attach to the shamrock wreath with your glue gun.

Cut out two pieces of black and white baker’s twine that are each about a foot long. Glue one piece to the back of the wreath to use as a hanger.

Tie a bow in a second piece of baker’s twine and glue onto wreath as decoration. Ta-da!

This is a fun activity to create with your tweens and teens. Make this Dollar Store shamrock shaped puzzle piece wreath in just about 30 minutes! For some additional fun look up the history of Shamrocks as they pertain to St. Patrick’s Day on the internet!
