A festive and easy holiday drink, these Tipsy Santa Shooters will have you feeling jolly in no time! Made with two simple ingredients!

Tipsy Santa Shots

You only need two ingredients to put together this fun and colorful shooter that is perfect for a holiday party or hosting Christmas this year.

The cinnamon and vanilla cream liqueur gives this a hint of the holiday season, while still being a beautiful cocktail that will wow your party guests. This is one of those tasty shots that you’ll want to share with all your friends.

I named them Tipsy Santa Shooters because the vibrant red and white colors remind me of a Santa hat. Also, it’s not a super strong drink, so tipsy seemed appropriate.

The layering effect is eye-catching and make it look like a complicated cocktail recipe, but it’s really not! Keep reading and I’ll show you the easy instructions for the “spoon trick” that I used to get this look!

Santa Shooters Ingredients

I’ve provided this quick list of shop-able ingredients for your convenience; disclosure policy here.

Amounts are per serving:

  • 1 oz. RumChata (cinnamon and vanilla cream liqueur)
  • 1 oz. Grenadine

Kitchen Tools Used

  • Coffee spoon
  • 2oz TALL shot glasses

What Does RumChata Taste Like?

RumChata is a rum-based cream liquor, infused with hints of vanilla and cinnamon. It gets its name by combining the words “Rum” and “Horchata,” a traditional Mexican drink made from rice and flavored with cinnamon.

At 13.7% alcohol, RumChata is not nearly as potent as pure rum. Since it is sweetened and mixed with other ingredients, RumChata is classified as a liqueur, not a liquor (distilled spirit).

It’s also important to note for allergy purposes, that while horchata is plant-based, RumChata is made with dairy ingredients.

RumChata is usually easily available at most liquor retailers, however, you can also use another type of cinnamon vanilla liqueur if needed. Baileys makes a vanilla cinnamon cream liqueur too.

What is Grenadine?

Grenadine is a non-alcoholic syrup that is commonly used in cocktails. Known for its bright red color and sweet flavor, grenadine is often mistaken as being cherry-based, but is usually made from pomegranate.

If needed, strawberry syrup can be substituted for grenadine. It is also thick and dense, making it perfect for the bottom layer of our Christmas shooters.

How to Layer the Shots

First, pour the Grenadine into a 2 oz shot glass. Using the tall shot glasses allows us to achieve the dramatic layered look best.

Take your spoon and place it into the shot glass, rounded side up, so that the tip of your spoon is against the inside of the shot glass.

Slowly pour the Rumchata onto the spoon, so that it slides down the side of the glass and lands on top of the grenadine. Take your time so the layers stay separate. If you pour too fast or too hard, some of the Rumchata may dry through into the grenadine layer.

Feel free to top with some whipped cream or enjoy it the way it is.

Can You Make this Non-Alcoholic?

Grenadine contains no alcohol, so that ingredient is totally family-friendly already. If you’re looking for a swap for the RumChata, I personally tested this recipe using coconut milk. It is thick and creamy and will create an almost identical look. The taste, however, will be a tad different and not as sweet.

I think that this would work really well with sweetened condensed milk too! That is also a thick, creamy consistency, and would probably have a better overall flavor when mixed with the grenadine.
