Witches Brew Cocktail for Halloween – It Shimmers Like Magic!

October is one of my favorite months. But it’s not just because fall in Texas is amazing! As a former bartender, I spent many Halloweens serving people with all kinds of spooky cocktails.

While it’s been many years since my bartending days, I still retained some of my fantastic cocktail making skills. To celebrate the Halloween season, I thought it would only be right to celebrate with a spooky cocktail!

This Witches Brew Drink is a great cocktail to enjoy while you’re binge-watching Hocus Pocus or any other of your favorite Halloween movies. The Midori Melon Liqueur and Blue Curacao come together to make a fantastic fruity cocktail that will quench your thirst!

You only need six ingredients to make this easy cocktail, and you can make just one or as many as you need!

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz. Vodka
  • ½ oz. Midori Melon Liqueur
  • ½ oz. Blue Curacao
  • 3 oz. Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • 3 oz. Lemon-Lime Soda
  • 1 tsp. silver cocktail shimmer powder

Instructions

It doesn’t get any easier than this!

  1. Combine all ingredients (except soda) in a cocktail shaker and shake until well mixed.
  2. Add soda to shaker and give a couple quick shakes to incorporate, taking care not to make it bubble up too much.
  3. Pour into a pint glass filled with ice and garnish with cherries.

Make it a pitcher: An average pitcher will hold about 4 servings, so simply quadruple the ingredient amounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did you get the drink to look glittery?

Believe it or not, the drink really does sparkle — it’s not just clever photography!

The secret is this silver cocktail shimmer powder, which adds a magical look to drinks with just a pinch!

TIP: If you’re going to make a pitcher’s worth, wait to stir the shimmer powder into each individual drink instead of adding to the pitcher. That way the shimmer won’t settle to the bottom of the pitcher and not make it into each drink.

What should I rim the glass with?

While this Halloween drink is perfectly tasty and eye-catching as is, you could add a festive touch with sparkly cocktail sugar, like this Black Pearl Cocktail Sugar from Snowy River Cocktails. Here’s an example on one of the cocktails from their blog:

Why call this cocktail Witches Brew?

This spooky cocktail is called a Witches Brew because it reminds me of a witch cauldron! This spooky cocktail looks just like a potion brewing in a cauldron, so I thought the name fit well! You’re welcome to call it what you like for your own Halloween theme!

Is there a non-alcoholic version?

While our cocktail gets its color from the specific liqueurs used, you can modify this recipe to make it family-friendly.

To make a non-alcoholic witches brew drink, try this recipe:

  • Add equal parts orange juice and lemon lime soda to a pitcher.
  • Stir in one packet of lime Kool-Aid (or similar green drink mix).
  • Pour over ice and garnish with cherries.

You could also add the silver shimmer dust to the drinks, as it is non-alcoholic too!

Can you make this drink year-round?

Of course! While this is titled Witches Brew, you can enjoy this cocktail anytime you’re in the mood for something delicious and sweet!

Since it is bright green, it would also be perfect for St. Patty’s Day!
