“The Raven” Halloween Cocktail

A spooky drink, black in color like its namesake, The Raven Cocktail is the ultimate Halloween drink! Despite its creepy color, it tastes fabulous!

Believe it or not, there is NO black food coloring used to achieve this deep purplish hue! We used the combination of dark blue Curacao liquor and dark reddish purple raspberry liqueur. Together they create a gorgeous purplish black color that only looks like it would taste odd. But this drink is actually quite fruity in flavor!

This cocktail would be perfect not only for a Halloween party, but also for any fun themed event where you want a drink with a spooky visual effect:

  • Hocus Pocus or Witch-Themed Parties
  • Disney Villains Parties (Maleficent had a pet raven named Diablo!)
  • Edgar Allan Poe Themed Events (Poe’s famous workย The Raven is actually the inspiration for this black colored cocktail after all!)
  • Halloween Movie Nights

Bartender Tools Used

The Raven Cocktail, black drink for Halloween

Instructions

  1. Pour liquors into a large cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well for 5-10 seconds.
  3. Pour into a cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a sprig of mint, cherries, and blackberries.

Prep Tips

  • All four of the liquid ingredients in this recipe contain alcohol, so this is a pretty strong drink. To make this a fruitier and less strong drink, use a larger glass and top with lemon-lime soda, lemonade, or grape Kool-Aid.
  • If making for a party or any situation where you need large batches, you’ll want to quadruple the ingredient amounts and add to a large pitcher or punch bowl with ice. Fill the rest of the pitcher or bowl with lemonade or grape Kool-Aid and stir. When preparing for a party I definitely recommend using non-alcoholic mixers such as juice for this recipe so it is not quite so strong.
  • If fruity drinks aren’t your thing, make it “spicy” by using spiced rum instead of silver rum! This gives the drink a unique and complex flavor.
