Candy Corn Jello Shots

If you’re hosting a fall get-together or Halloween Party, you need these candy corn-themed jello shots! They are so fun and so easy to make. You can even make these ahead of time for easy party prep! Serve them in small cups or plastic shot glasses for easy serving.

Candy corn is one of those polarizing foods that you either love…or don’t love. That’s why we made our candy corn jello shots vanilla in flavor, so they taste good and you’ll enjoy them even if you don’t love the taste of real candy corn!

Either way, you can’t deny how cute these Candy Corn Jello Shots turned out! The bright layers look just like the real thing! And you can top them with Halloween candy for an extra festive touch.

Believe it or not, this is actually a very simple recipe (it’s all the same flavor, you’ll just divide the jello mixture up and make it different colors before layering). So you really only need to make one batch of jello and then layer your jello shots.

It looks like you spent all day on these and they’re guaranteed to be a hit at your fall or Halloween-themed event!

Instructions

Because the jello needs to set between each layer, you’ll want to make sure you have about 2 hours total time set aside. Most of this won’t be active time, but each layer needs about 30 minutes to chill.

To Prep the Gelatin:

  • Bring 2 cups water to a boil.
  • Combine 1 cold cup of water with the contents of 4 packets of unflavored gelatin. Allow to sit for 5 minutes, then pour in 2 cups of boiling water and whisk until all of the gelatin is dissolved.
  • Whisk in the sweetened condensed milk and 1 chilled cup vanilla vodka. This mixture should be a creamy white color.
  • Once the mixture has cooled enough to handle (a little warmer than room temperature), divide evenly among 3 small bowls. Leave one bowl white. In a second bowl, stir in a few drops of yellow food coloring so the mixture is bright yellow. Do the same in the 3rd small bowl with orange food coloring so it is also a vivid color.

To Layer the Jello Shots:

  1. Pour white gelatin into the empty plastic cups, about 1/3 of the way full. Chill for at least 30 minutes in the fridge.
  2. Pour the orange gelatin on top of the white layer and chill for 30 more minutes.
  3. Pour the yellow gelatin on top of the orange layer and chill until the shots are completely set (not just the top of the yellow layer).

Prep Tips

  • Garnish the finished jello shots with candy corn or mellowcreme pumpkin candies. I recommend waiting to do this until you’re ready to serve, so the candy doesn’t get soft.
  • Place your plastic cups on a large cookie tray or in a muffin tin before making your jello shots. This makes it easy to move them in and out of the fridge for chilling.
  • For easy layering, a clean medicine syringe or flavor injector works great for putting the jello mixture into the plastic cups. If you don’t have one, a measuring scoop will work well too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Jello Shots Does This Recipe Make?

We used 2 ounce plastic condiment cups and got about 16 individual jello shots. You may yield more or less depending on the size of the plastic cups used.

Can You Use a Different Flavor of Vodka?

Sure! We used vanilla because it blends well with the sweetened condensed milk and it is fairly common so it should be easy to find at your local retailer. You could use plain vodka, but keep in mind this will make the jello shots taste stronger.

If you want to try a different flavor of vodka, whipped cream vodka or salted caramel vodka would also taste fabulous! Even light rum or coconut rum could work if vodka is not your preferred type of alcohol. If substituting another flavor, just keep the same amount: 1 cup of vodka.

How Long Do Jello Shots Last?

One reason I love jello shots for party planning is that you can make them the night before, or even days in advance. When stored in the refrigerator, jello shots should stay good for up to a week!

To extend their freshness and preserve the quality, I recommend using plastic cups with lids for long-term storage (if you’re not planning on serving right away). And as I mentioned in the prep tips, I would wait to add any candy toppings until you’re about to serve them.
