The Cheesecake Factory is one of our favorite restaurants because it is a place where the whole family can find things they love to eat. Not to mention, they have a HUGE dessert menu!

My kids especially love the sweet brown bread that they serve before your meal. These soft baguettes of brown bread are bursting with flavor! I’m not usually tempted by bread at a restaurant, but Cheesecake Factory brown bread is another story! It’s somehow sweet, savory, and perfectly soft and fluffy…all at the same time!

We live kind of far away from town, so we can’t go out to eat as much as we might like. But the good news is that with this easy copycat recipe, we can make that delicious Cheesecake Factory bread at home anytime!

This is a real from-scratch bread recipe, made with yeast. So you do have to allow a little bit of time for it to rise. But the basic recipe is actually pretty simple! You mix up the dough, and after it rises you shape the dough into loaves and bake. It’s a great homemade bread recipe for beginners! No stand mixer or special baguette pan needed! Just simple ingredients and simple supplies.

This Copycat Cheesecake Factory Brown Bread recipe is as close as you can get to the real deal, and will bring the taste you know and love into your own kitchen! It really captures the flavor of the bread and it smells so good while it’s baking!

What is Cheesecake Factory’s Brown Bread Made Of?

If you were wondering whether the Cheesecake Factory brown bread is chocolate flavored, well, yes, there is cocoa powder in the recipe! It’s just enough to give it a hint of chocolate flavor and it contributes to the distinctive brown color. The bread is also made with a blend of all purpose flour and whole wheat flour, plus molasses, so that’s why it is a rich brown in color too!

Of course, the actual Cheesecake Factory brown bread recipe is a closely guarded secret, but I think this copycat recipe is pretty spot-on both in looks and taste! You’re gonna love it!

Instructions

Before you start, you’ll want to plan ahead, as this homemade bread recipe takes about 3 hours of total time. Don’t worry though, as most of this time is simply prep time and allowing for the bread to rise.

To Make The Dough

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together the warm water, molasses, honey, and yeast. Set aside and allow the yeast mixture to proof for 10 minutes.
  2. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the flours, cocoa powder, and brown sugar. Create a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour the bowl of wet ingredients into this.
  3. Fold together until a sticky dough forms, then transfer to a floured countertop to finish kneading by hand. Continue kneading for 5-8 minutes until you have a smooth ball of dough.
  4. Place the dough into a bowl that’s been coated in oil and roll the dough in the oil to coat the top of the dough. Place the dough in the middle of the bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
