This melt-in-your-mouth caramel apple fudge is beautifully swirled with sour apple and salted caramel flavors. Tastes just like the classic fall treat, but much easier to eat!

Caramel Apple Fudge

The weather has gotten a few degrees cooler this week and it’s finally starting to feel like fall is on the way!

One of my favorite things about fall are all the sweet treats. Caramel apples are always a classic fall dessert — my girls especially love them! I love them too, but they’re kind of tricky to eat!

This caramel apple fudge has all the sweet and sour flavors of a real caramel apple, but in an easy-to-eat candy treat! Sour apple notes are swirled with creamy caramel to create a melt-in-your-mouth fudge recipe that is perfect for the fall season! It could also be called apple pie fudge because it reminds me a lot of apple pie too.

Not only that, but this is a super easy fudge recipe! All you need are 4 simple ingredients to make this deliciously decadent treat that will have everyone raving about it! And it looks so pretty too with those swirls!

The hardest thing is waiting for it to cool and eat!

  • 16 Ounces Salted Caramel Candy Melts
  • 16 Ounces Vibrant Green Candy Melts
  • 28 Ounces Sweetened Condensed Milk (two typical 14-ounce cans)
  • 1 ½ Teaspoons Green Apple Candy Flavoring

Kitchen Supplies

  • 2 Medium Microwave-Safe Bowls
  • 2 Silicone Spatulas
  • 8-inch Square Baking Pan
  • Parchment Paper

Caramel Apple Fudge Ingredients, with text labels: sweetened condensed milk, green apple flavoring, caramel candy melts, lime green candy melts

Instructions

To Prep: Line an 8×8″ square pan with parchment paper.

  1. Add the caramel melts to a medium mixing bowl that is microwave-safe. Place the green melts in a separate microwave-safe bowl. Pour one can of the sweetened condensed milk into the bowl of caramel melts.
  2. Add the green apple candy flavoring to the second can of sweetened condensed milk. Stir well to mix the flavoring into the milk, then pour into the bowl of green candy melts.
  3. One at a time, microwave each bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between, until melted and smooth (about 2 minutes).
  4. Pour the caramel mixture and the apple mixture into the prepared pan, a little at a time, alternating between flavors, so you have a swirl pattern. You can also use a toothpick to make more swirls. Place the pan in the fridge to chill until completely set.

Prep Tips:

  • Parchment Paper – This is a must for homemade fudge to turn out correctly and for easy removal from the pan! Do not substitute nonstick spray in place of the parchment paper, as the fudge will still stick and be very difficult to get out of the pan without messing it up.
  • Pan Size – We used an 8-inch square pan to make our fudge. However, you can use pretty much any pan you have on hand, even a casserole dish. Using a smaller pan will make the fudge thicker and the fudge will take a bit longer to set due to the thickness. Using a larger pan will make the fudge thinner and it should set a little faster. This may be a good option if you’re in a hurry!
  • Setting – Once you put the fudge in the refrigerator to chill, try not to move it, as this can cause wrinkles on the top of the fudge. It won’t affect the flavor at all, but you may not have that perfectly smooth surface that looks so nice!
  • Serving – To serve the fudge, use the parchment paper to pop the fudge out of the baking dish in one big block. Then you can place it on a cutting board to slice into small squares. I recommend cutting into 1 or 2 inch pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Use Regular Caramel or Caramel Chips For This Recipe?

I do not recommend using regular caramel instead of the caramel flavored candy melts. Regular caramel won’t set up in fudge at all, so the recipe will not work as expected. Candy melts, on the other hand, are designed to be melted, re-shaped, and re-hardened. They are exactly what we need for this recipe!

Flavor-wise, you can use either regular caramel flavored candy melts or salted caramel flavor. We used salted caramel candy melts, but if you don’t like the salt flavor, you can simply use caramel candy melts. But again, NOT caramel itself.

Does Homemade Fudge Need To Be Refrigerated?

You can keep homemade fudge at room temperature, as it does not require refrigeration. However, you can extend its shelf life using the fridge or freezer.

Homemade fudge will keep for up to 2-3 weeks in an airtight container in the fridge. To freezer, wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag or container, for up to 3 months.  If you do keep fudge in the freezer or fridge, be sure to give it time to thaw or warm up before you serve it.
