You can’t beat the ease of these creative Halloween Nutter Butters. With simple decorations and your own creativity, you can make these cookies look like spooky ghosts or mummies. They are perfect for a Halloween party!
Not only are these Nutterbutter ghosts and mummies super cute, they’re actually super tasty too! The peanut butter cookie is perfectly complemented by the creamy white chocolate. I love white chocolate and peanut butter together!
In this post I’ll show you how to make Nutter Butter ghost cookies and Nutter Butter mummy cookies. You only need 3 ingredients to make both cookie designs and create spooky and cute Halloween treats that taste as yummy as they look!

- White Melting Chocolate or Candy Coating
- Nutter Butter Cookies – We used a family size bag, but how many cookies you make is up to you!
- Mini Chocolate Chips – You could also use candy eyes if you prefer.
Helpful Kitchen Tools
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Disposable piping bag
- Large baking sheet
- Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
Instructions
To Prep:
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, wax paper, or silicone baking mat. If you have a wire cooling rack, place it overtop of the baking sheet, for easy clean up. It also allows any excess chocolate to drip off the cookies so they look neater.
- Melt white chocolate candy coating according to package directions. I usually do this in a microwave-save bowl, heating in 20 second intervals, stirring between, until melted and smooth.
To Make Nutter Butter Ghosts:
- For ghost nutter butters, only dip about two-thirds of each cookie, leaving the bottoms of the cookies un-coated.
- Make a small batch of melted white chocolate and scoop into a ziplock bag with the corner cut, or a disposable piping bag.
- Use the melted chocolate to pipe a wavy line along the bottom of where you dipped the cookies, so it looks like a floating ghost.
- Place 2 mini chocolate chips in the still-wet white chocolate coating, to be the ghost’s eyes.
- Place 1 mini chocolate chips as the ghost’s mouth.
To Make Nutter Butter Mummies:
- Dip one entire face of the cookie into the melted white chocolate.
- Allow the coating to dry completely.
- Make a small batch of melted white chocolate and scoop into a ziplock bag with the corner cut, or a disposable piping bag.
- Use your piping bag to draw lines across the front of the mummy cookies, like the mummy wrappings.
- Place 2 mini chocolate chips as eyes.
Prep Tips
- Tools – If you don’t have a disposable piping bag handy, you can make your own by cutting one corner of a ziplock bag. Scoop the melted candy coating into the bag and use it just like you would a piping bag. With a ziplock bag, you can even seal the top so the melted chocolate doesn’t spill out.
- Cookie Coating – You can use white candy coating (pictured here), white chocolate melting wafers, white chocolate almond bark, or white candy melts. These are all products that are formulated to melt easily and look smooth when they re-harden.
- Variations – You can make similar treats using other types of cookies. You could also use candy eyeballs instead of mini chocolate chips. This is an easy recipe to customize and use what you have on hand.
- Melting – Because the candy coating sets fairly quickly, I recommend making the cookies in small batches and only melting a little bit of the chocolate at a time. I also suggest making sure that the candy coating on the cookies has hardened before drawing on the mummy wrappings. Otherwise, the piping will simply melt into the rest of the candy coating and you don’t get the neat 3D effect that we want.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can You Use White Chocolate Chips?
As mention in the “prep tips” section, for best results I recommend using products that are specifically designed to be used in candy making. They are made with ingredients to melt smoothly.
White chocolate chips may not melt smoothly on their own and they may clump or look grainy when they harden back up. However there is a quick fix that will allow you to use white chocolate chips in a pinch. Melt the white chocolate chips with a tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening and stir until smooth. This added fat will help the white chocolate melt better.
Do These Cookies Need To Be Refrigerated?
No, these cookies do not require refrigeration. I recommend keeping them in an airtight container at room temperature. They should stay fresh for about a week or so.
